Quick Palo ?

Just wondering can you get away with a shirt and tie in Palo or do you need the jacket?

If you have on a shirt and tie and skip the jacket, it is requested but they certainly won't bar you from entering the restaurant.

You can REALLY Do what you want, you will not be out of place, I think it is interesting on these boards the people that get so uptight on the "suggested" dress guidelines, I dress up every day of my life in a suit and a tie, and dont really want to do this on vacation. I have gone in in resort causal and not felt out of place.
If these people want to sit in judgement on dress, then I will offer my 2 cents. Many of the people who think that they are dressed up with ties and coats, go buy new clothes, sansabelts, and a tie look far worse than a nice shirt and jacket or a tie and no jacket. My last cruise people who thought that they were "dressed" looked pathetic.
It is your vacation do what you want, dress comfortably.

On our 7 night cruise, my hubby forgot his jacket. Remembered his tuxedo (which he wore for both formal and semi formal night) but forgot his jacket. His choice at Palo was to wear his tuxedo a third time or to just wear a shirt and tie. He just wore the shirt and tie. He looked just fine and I don't think he looked out of place at all. There were people who were dressed even more casually than he was but frankly, after a quick glance around the room, we were so engrossed in our romantic dinner together that what anyone else was wearing or doing was of no concern to me.

Go for the dress shirt and tie. Don't take the extra luggage it takes to bring the coat. BTW - I'll be dressed that way along with my dark socks and sandals!!

On our 11/16 cruise my husband wore a shirt and tie. He looked great and he did not appear to be underdressed at all. A group of our friends who were leaving the restaurant were all wearing polo shirts. We had men in our party with jackets/ no ties, buttondown shirts/ no ties, jacets and ties - everything. We were just all happy to be together to experience the restaurant. Not judging others for what they were wearing or trying to feel superior to others.

Scott, if YOU think you'll feel out of place without it, then take the jacket. If not, then leave it. DCL says a jacket or a button shirt and tie. I always pack mine with my dress slacks and DW's dresses, so it really doesn't take any extra luggage.

I am not uptight about the dress code. I was just basing my opinion on what happened on our October 25th cruise. I entered Palo's with a friend who did not have a jacket on. He did have a shirt and tie. They gave him a pretty hard time about the no jacket, but eventually let him in.

WOW! Must have been a different crew working when we went this past July. Only my youngest son remembered to pack a tie, so all of them went w/o ties: DH & my 2 grown sons. Of course, this was the 3-day Cruise - maybe they allow for a more casual time for the short cruise. When you're travelling clear across the country & spending only 3 of your 7 vacation days on board ship, dragging along 3 sport coats seemed a little unnecessary. (I was a little ticked that the ties were left at home!)

Okay, I'm new to these boards, so I hope you will all cut me some slack. I just found the answer to my above question under the dress code thread that found stickied at the top, buried in another thread. Sorry. I'll get better.

the last time we went to Palo, each and every guy in the entire restaurant was wearing a jacket....the suggested dress code is a jacket....obviously, Palo wants to foster a special atmosphere that is more elegant....

Does it really require that much effort to throw on a jacket?Does a jacket really take up that much space in your luggage?

Yeah, it does. I mean, it's not like it's only one of my arms. It's both arms. All two of them.
And last time I took a jacket, I needed 3 extra pieces of luggage and two porters. Can you believe it?

I've only been to Palo once, but I believe ALL the men were wearing jackets the night we visited. I know my husband would have felt out of place if he'd been the only one without a jacket.

I'd like to repeat a previous poster's question: What's the expected dress for the brunch? I'm sure it's more casual since it's mid-day.

brunch dress is resort casual...no bathing suits, but I'm sure nice shorts will do fine...

Just got off the Wonder today, dined at Palo last night. There were only two gentlemen in jackets in the whole place. The rest were in dress shirts and ties. A few had open collar shirts as well. My husband had a jacket, but did not wear it. Nobody said a thing about him not having it on.
