Quick NYC trip (both days posted)

WARNING: This is going to come out weird. It's late and I don't quite know how to say what I want to say.

I loved your shots---thank you so much for sharing. I live about an hour outside of NYC and I hate it with a passion. I don't like crowds, I don't like sharing the bathroom with homeless people bathing in the sink of the train station, I don't like New Yorkers (c'mon, I'm from New Jersey---I can't like them, it's like a law!! ;)).

All of that being said, your pictures allowed me to sit back and enjoy everything great that NYC has to offer without actually having to deal with all of the things I hate. I feel like I can never appreciate how truly amazing Manhattan is, because I focus on all of the horrible stuff mentioned above. Toys R' Us is an awesome toy store and every time I have walked in it has just been torture. I honestly never even noticed a three story ferris wheel in the store because I've been too hot and grumpy from the wall to wall people and everyone bumping into me. :rotfl2:

So I know this was a very round-about way of complimenting you, but I really did love the pics. Seeing them actually makes me want to take a trip into the city.....

.......................luckily, I know better. :)

I have loved looking at your pictures. I've never been to NYC. My sister wants to have her bachlorette party weekend in NYC next August. I told her about your pictures. I'm so excited to go (sorry Ann ;)) and take my camera I can't hardly stand it. Told her she could have me at night for dinner and drinks and mischief but during the day if she wanted to see me she had to tag along with me and my camera :rotfl:.

Thanks so much for giving me examples to follow!

Sense another trip where I'm going to be renting a fisheye, unless DH gets it for me at Christmastime.

Thanks you two!

Ann - I think I just figured out what your username means. :lmao: You have to forgive the crowds a little at Toys R Us - it is in Times Square after all, not the place for anyone to go if they want peace and quiet! That being said, I actually was not all that impressed with it. I'm not sure what I expected but it seemed a bit "warehouse"-y and not that big - I seem to remember FAO Schwartz being quite a bit bigger, but as I said, I didn't get in there this trip. :(

WillowBelle, have a great time! This trip, I was only there for maybe 3-5 hours either night, imagine what you can do with a whole day. :) I did get kind of lucky in having rain at night, the wet roads are quite photogenic. I do have some photos from longer trips that I took years ago, but nothing really special. Unless you count this one from 1995... :rotfl2:

This whole time I thought it was completely obvious---especially considering my "location" is "New Jersey" but next time, I'll just spell it out correctly so I don't confuse all of those slow New Yorkers. ;) Luckily, you aren't really lumped into the "New Yorkers" category, because northern New York just doesn't count. Sort of like how I'm from south Jersey and it's basically a completely different state than north Jersey. :rolleyes1:

I agree about Toys R Us in the sense that it's in Times Square---but c'mon, I've been there at all different times of the day, different days of the week and it is always wall to wall people. I did like FAO Schwartz better, especially since it was in the movie BIG, but I'm pretty sure they closed it down a few years back (or so I heard).

Yeah, the local newspaper is often filled with people bellyaching about how there are two New Yorks, and NYC hogs all the money, or stuff like that. I tend not to pay that much attention to the debates but it is definitely like a different state entirely. (It doesn't help that, from where I am, you drive through PA for a couple hours to get there!)

As for usernames - hey, I still thing ukcatfan is just a guy who likes felines in Great Britain! :teeth: With yours, I assumed that it was "Anne" and for some reason, you spelled it with three "n"s and I had no idea about the rest, maybe an unusual last name... I usually don't try to hard to figure out usernames, there are so many that are practically random anyway.

It's definitely still there, and the home of the Muppet Whatnot Factory (they built me one earlier this year!) and I just saw something about them having a new Disney section - maybe on Jim Hall's site, I don't remember for sure.

FWIW, Toys R Us wasn't TOO busy on the Tuesday night I was there, but I'm sure the drizzle kept some away. (Did I ever mention how much I love weathersealing? It seems like it ends up raining at least a little at almost every event I've gone to in the past couple years.)
