DH and I are considering a quick, weekend date and have found good rates for LV. We have never been, so looking at all of the hotel choices is overwhelming.

What is a really, good place that has a comparable quality to WDW's luxury resorts? We are interested in the shows, maybe a 'coaster or two, but not much gambling.

Are there hotels that have great perks? good but not overly priced meals? Are the Bellagio and others high end ones really worth the money?

Any way that we can get tickets to "O" when the book office is sold out?

Give me the Reader's Digest version of your Vegas info, please!

(The "search" function is off at the moment so I could not find any previously listed Vegas info.)

I like MGM, Mandalay Bay...New York, New York has a coaster. All of these are either in walking distance or has a monorail to take.

We have stayed at the Luxor and Excalibur--both were great. They have so many neat hotels to chose from. If you are goign during the week you should be able to get a good rate on a room.

They have reviews of hotels, shows, etc.

I recently stayed at the Bellagio through an internet special rate of $139 per night. I had signed their internet guest book and they send me notification of special rates. On my reservation I requested a room overlooking the fountains and much to my suprise I got it. WOW, what a view! However, there is no way I would spend much more for a room since I don't spend much time in it anyway.

You might also check on the hotel websites for special promotion rates.

Claudia1 you have mail.:)

As far as O goes, it is a wonderful show and imho well worth seeing. Most shows have standby lines where you line up for unused "Comp" and no show "Will Call" tickets. Each resort box office can run their standby procedure differently, so it is best to contact the Bellagio direct. Here are a few links for starters:

I go to Vegas at least once a year because BFs dad lives there, but have not stayed in any hotels on the Strip.

However, I've heard good things about Monte Carlo and MGM. Good things about Venetian too, but that one may be pricey. I've heard that Circus Circus is NOT good, and have heard mixed reviews on Excalibur. I've heard the Luxor is nice too.

There used to be a restaurant in the Mirage, I'm not sure if it's still there, called Caribe Cafe. We LOVED that place. The food and service were excellent, yet it was a casual environment with decent prices and good portions.

You may also want to check out the Flamingo Hilton. You might be able to get a good price there. It's not as fancy as the other places, but should be nice, and it's still convenient to everything on the Strip. There's also a monorail that connects from Bally's to MGM.

You will definitely have lots of other things to do besides gambling too!

It by far is not the newest, but I still like to stay at Ceasars Palace. Their new tower rooms have fabulous views of both the pool and the bellagio fountains. You have to spend sometime in the Forum shops, and eat at Cheescake Factory !

My DH and I stayed at the Tropicana and liked that well enough. We stayed in the casino tower and its location cant be beat and they have a GREAT pool, with swim up blackjack. Its shares corners with MGM, NYNY and Excalibur, Monte Carlo is close by, as is Mandalay and Luxor.

That's where we're staying for our first time in Vegas next month!!:smooth: :bounce:

My DD and i are checking into the Tropicana ( picked for the pool and dirt cheap package ) on the 19th of this month ! :) We are going to swim, shop, eat and play for 5 days !

Absolutely the BEST hotel in Las Vegas is the Four Seasons. It is our "splurge" weekend getaway and you will not find a better oasis in the desert than this amazing hotel. The service is beyond impeccable and the two restaurants are excellent. Plus you're right in the Mandalay Bay resort (the Four Seasons occupies the upper floors, and has a separate entrance and lobby area) so you're close to the activity there.

For Rides:
Big Shot on the Stratosphere (best thrill ride in vegas IMHO the view you will get is awesome)
Speed the Ride at the Sahara
Coaster at NYNY
IMHO I would not waste time on the roller coaster on top of the Stratosphere. Kinda lame.

Make sure to see the Battle of Bucanneer Bay (pirate show) at Treasure Island. It will no longer be there after June. They are replacing it with a more adult themed show.

Will you have your own car? If you will then you can stay pretty much where you want on the strip. If not you may want to stay more centralized.

Heres my take on the diff places I have stayed at:
Sahara: The room was yucky! Bathtub backed up. Service was awful.

Luxor: There are 2 diff types of rooms here. The pyramid rooms and the tower rooms. With the pyramid rooms you get to have the unique experience of riding in an elevator that goes up at an angle. The rooms are nice. The tower rooms are much nicer I remember. They have a seperate tub and shower in the bathroom.

Mirage: Very nice rooms. Pool area is great but when I was there the water was ice cold.

Treasure Island: They have recently updated the rooms here and have nice amenities. Rooms facing south have an awesome view of the strip. Pool area is small compared with the size of the hotel.

Rio: This is off the strip but it is an all suite hotel. The suites in the masquerade tower have floor to ceiling windows that cover the whole outside wall of the suite. They have excellent buffets here.

Tropicana: I have stayed here more times than any place else.
The pool area is great! Palm trees, waterfalls, green vegetation not a lot of cement. They have a swim up black jack table as well.
Sorry to hear they might be tearing it down next year.

There are some pics of the Tropicana in my Vegas section of my website:

Great site and pix !

Are there any specifics ( rooms, floors, towers) we should request when we check into the Trop ?

I'm leaving sun for Trop. Any special pic request. I'm hoping to post from my laptop.

Last minute Vegas is actually not as bad as last minute WDW. Try to bid on Priceline.com. Venetian is the only 5 star in Priceline, and you can get somewhat decent price. You can also bid for other stars hotel for a cheaper rate, if you don't have specific hotel in mind. Check this out for more info -

I'm going in June, staying in Orleans. I was told it's pretty nice, but off strip. Sat rate is $80. Luxor / Aladdin also has been running deals lately. Call the hotel directly and see what they can offer.

As for O, I read from a LV board that you can reserve a room in Bellagio, then have them book the O tickets, and then cancel the roomlater . Since Bellagio blocks tickets for their guests, you may have a better chance. I have not done that myself, and don't know if it actually works. You can also wait in line for cancel ticket on the day of the show.

First off stay out of the Garden rooms! They are the oldest rooms there and they show it!!!!!

As far the towers...
I know the Paradise Tower(the front tower) is about 10-20 dollars higher than the Island Tower(the back one) but all you really get for that extra money is a frig.
When you made your resv. did they tell you which tower you were in?

Personally I prefer the Island tower for the following reasons...
1. The view. Because of the way the building sits the strip view rooms in the Island tower give a better view of the four corners and strip. The front tower sits slanted in such away that you dont get a really good of the strip north. You can see how front tower sit in one of the photos. If you decide to stay in the Island tower make sure to get a strip view room. The other side faces the airport when I stayed on that side, I heard jets taking off all night.

2. Pool access. In the Island tower you take the elevator all the way down, walk through the small arcade and poof you are at the pool. In the front tower you have to walk through the middle of the casino to get to the pool. I always felt I had to wear all the clothes over my swimsuit when I had to do that. With the Island tower just put on the suit, hop on the elevator and I'm there.

3. Parking. I always have my own car. There is a parking lot right next to the Island tower. Walk up a few steps down a hall and poof right at the elevators.

4. The elevator. The Island elevators are glass elevators and its really neat at night to rise up above the city.

I do want to say this. If you will not have a car, the Paradise tower is at the front so you wont have to do alot of extra walking.

As for which floor....since I'm stay in a strip view room I always ask for the highest floor I can get.

As for check in time, I try to get there before their official check in time. Lines are usually long right at check in time.

Hope this helps

Wow! thanks for all of the emails and replies!

It now looks like we will probably not go this time but still haven't decided. We want to go over Memorial Day and the airfare was not as good as I anticipated. We had a storm go thru and we lost internet for awhile. The fares were different when I got back on.

I will certainly save this post, though, because we really, really want to see some of the shows and "O".

Keep the info coming!

I haven't actually stayed there since BFs dad lives in Vegas and we stay with him, but we've gone there many times for lunch because they have a decent buffet at a good price. It is off the Strip, but it should only take you a few minutes to drive to the Strip (will you have a car?), and parking is free everywhere. The buffet there might not be as fancy as some of the ones on the Strip, but the price is definitely a lot better! I think the Orleans is relatively new, and looks well-maintained.
