Hello, all! I've seen this board, but I've just finally decided to venture down and see what's here...

I'm Raindayplay, Rainyday for short, or Kim for even shorter! I have a DD (almost 5!). I'm a teacher in Alabama, so most of the year, it's difficult to keep up with the scrapbookking habits. I have been scrapping for two years now -- my first one chronicaled a trip to Atlanta.

I am the proud owner of a Cricut Expression (And use it for things in my classroom...so I always look for cartridges I can use at school...)

Now that I'm out for summer vacation...and heading back to the World in 11 days....I'm trying to get the book for our October trip finished. I have yet to do a professional-looking page like I've seen other people do, but I love what I've done, and that's what counts!

On a side note...I "cheated" this year. I gave my students sheets 8.5"x11" sheets of card stock and offered them a test grade if they would do a scrapbook page for me -- anything they wanted for me to remember them by. I actually got some awesome pages back from these kids, especially my 8th graders, who won't get to have me again. Best idea I ever had! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to share ideas!

Welcome aboard Kim!!!!!!

Glad you finally ventured this way! We have challenges for pages, love to see everyones work, and we love to share ideas too. I hope you get to hang out with us over summer break, we still have a 1 1/2 weeks left. I am so ready for vacation though!

I really like your idea for a scrapbook for the kids. DS12's math teacher is a scrapper and she did a scrapbook unit for enrichment. This might be a nice idea for her since she is our 8th grade advisor next year.

Thanks for the idea!

Welcome aboard, Kim. Glad you found us. We have a great time here, (sometimes too great) :lmao::lmao: Jump in and have some fun.

Kim, That is a FABULOUS idea! I wonder how it could be modified for a little crop for friends to make pages for each other?

Welcome Kim!!!

Cute idea!!! ;) Maybe I could do that of my kids... an "all about me" page to include in our family album for the year!!!

Welcome! Join right in! And maybe I'll see you at the World as we will be there on the 23rd! :cool1:

Thanks for all the welcoming!

JESW -- Maybe we will! I'll be staying at POR the 20th through the 27th, and we're celebrating TWO birthdays. (In fact...that's how we got the idea for the trip...free admission on your birthday...hmm...maybe I should take DD down....but that would mean driving on MY bday...so we'll go down the day before mine and leave the day after hers...then it morphed into a weeklong stay.)

PrincessNancy96, LindaBabe, & BernardandMissBianca -- I gave them full creative reign over the project. Several didn't participate (it was optional..the most frustrating part is giving people something to do to improve their grades, and the ones that need it the most still won't do it...) Several just wrote their name or drew a picture and put their name on it or even just said a little somthing about themselves. (One put "Read 2 Succeed" on hers...I had to question that one.."This is what you want me to remember about you??")

Several of my 8th graders, though, really put some thought into what they did, putting pictures on their entries and "goodbye" letters -- several that would just make you want to cry reading them! Some of the work looked like they scrap at home, which is pretty cool. :)

We're a 7-12 school, and there isn't a whole lot to make the 7th & 8th graders feel special, so I had the 8th graders do a time capsule to be opened on the last Friday of school before they graduate. I also worked with the teacher at a middle school where those students will come to our high school next year. They also got to do a class scrapbook for the time capsule -- and you can see so much difference in what I did with mine versus what the other teacher did with hers. Ours was voluntary and they could put whatever they wanted on it; theirs seemed to be mandantory, and they had a form to fill out. (Name, list of favorites, that sort of thing.) The other teacher may have gotten more entries, but I think I got the most creative ones!

Perhaps next year, when I have 8th graders do their autobiography projects, we'll turn it in to more of a scrapbook...hmm...
