I don't know why I'm stumped on what to get, but I have to go out tonight and pickup a birthday gift for my son's little friend who is turning one. I know I can just pick something out, but I thought it should somehow be special or something, since it's a milestone birthday. Well, I guess it doesn't have to be that special, but I just can't think of anything. The party is tomorrow...anyone have any good gift suggestions?

thanks
Laura

Do you have a favorite children's book? Something that was read to you when you were little? Kids can never have enough books, buy him one that you loved and put a special note in it telling him why you loved it.

i had this exact same problem. one of my coworkers baby first bday is the sunday and i couldnt find anything. So i went out and bought babies first leap pad (i think that's what's its called)

thanks for the ideas! I'm off to the store.

I think a couple of books, especially if they are your son's favorites, are a very nice idea. If not that, Little People. Love the Little People. :)

Baby Einstein DVDs or just about anything by Fisher Price would be good- Little People sets, Laugh & Learn Stride-to-Ride Learning Walker, Peek-a-Blocks, Roll-a-Rounds, etc.

HTH!

You are probably long gone but the favorite toy at that age at our house was the kid lawn mowers. We had a bubble mower and the bubble thing worked for about 2 hours but the mower was played with daily all summer long and then some.

We had this problem 2 weeks ago for a friend's DS. DH asked me to get something from another friend's store. Well, of course they aren't open at night,so I couldn't do that. And, the party was 2 days away.

While I was talking to DH on my cell, it dawned on me! A big belly bank!

While not inexpensive at a $50 price tag, these were good friends and the party was at the country club and our kids were invited with us. I knew that it wouldn't come in time, so I printed a picture of the bank and taped it in the card with a note that it would be delivered to their house sometime during the week.

I've given this before for a first birthday. They go over very well and will last the kids for a long time after they have had many birthdays.

You can view them here: https://www.inventiveparent.com/bigbellybanks.htm

We bought the aquarium one for this birthday. We've also bought a train, the giraffe, the unicorn, the moose, the horse and the dinosaur.

I got the baby's first leap pad per a poster's suggestion. It looks like a great item. It was nice to already have something in mind before going into the store; I probably would've been there quite a bit longer reading all the boxes of toys without the suggestion!

Thanks to the rest who posted more suggestions; there are still a bunch of other babies we know so I'll be checking back when the times comes!

thanks again

Laura

DH picked out DS's one year birthday gift - DS was so little that he didn't care what he got and didn't get that it WAS his b'day, so DH bought him one share of Disney stock. The certificate is just perfect to frame for a decoration. I want to say it was about $65.

Now he gets tiny little dividend checks - each less than $1 - but he gets cuch a kick out of them.

My son LOVED cars and trucks at that age so any of thoses giant little tykes cars or trucks would of made him smile.

This gift did go over well, he (and mom!) seemed to like it! I was debating about getting an extra book and was just about to, but decided not to in the end.

When my twins turned one three was two gifts we loved. First was a little slide from toys r us. We kept it in the family room. It has been used by all six kids and was a fav. it was great for cordination. Next was 3 wheel bikes. We loved these as well and they came in handy. Last was a small plastic picnic table. Wow, we use this thing all hte time. From dinner to coloring to painting. Just great. Anyway hope this helps for future kidos!
