QUICK! I Need Help from the Crock Pot Experts

Wow! What a great idea...cooking frozen meat in the crockpot. Maybe that will solve my problem of the meat cooking too fast.

My original crockpot (25+ years old) had to be replaced recently because I broke the glass cover. It was a one-piece container. I would use it now and again, not a real big crockpot cooker (not a big cook in general) but was always happy with the results.

Recently went out and bought a replacement crockpot, the two piece type, and I find it cooks way too fast. The meat literally falls to pieces if I start it before going to work. Last time I used it, I started it at lunch time and the meat was so much better. Isn't that weird???

So, Beth - how will you reheat the meat on Thursday? Will you cut into pieces and heat in the microwave or will you reheat entire piece in the crockpot or what? I am not known for my culinary arts and I really would like to know.

Well now that I know you can start with frozen meat in the crock pot, that opens a whole new set off recipes.

Beth, let us know how the meat is.

RUDisney, I have a great, simple recipe for brownies fron the Betty Crocker Cookbook for boys and girls that I got as a child sometime back in the 60's. Let me know if you want it.

This is what is great about the DIS....you can always get a quick answer about any subject.

Just so that you know, I put a 3.25 pound block rump roast in the crock pot on high at about 9:45 after browning it in the oven for about 45 minutes at 475 degrees.
It was ready at 4:45 - tender, but not falling apart tender yet.
Tulirose, I plan on just putting it back into the crockpot for a few hours on Thursday. Probably on low. But we will see how it goes.
You are right about trying new things Carol! I am always looking for ways to feed my family a decent meal at dinner time without having to spend a lot of time in the kitchen right before dinner time. It is usually busy then.

I will let you know how it tastes on Thursday. I am anxious to taste the "gravy" that this made.

:)

Beth - Since you don't have the manual . . . mine (for the 6 1/2 qt oval) says that you aren't supposed to store leftovers & reheat in the crock. (fear of breakage) HOWEVER, I'd been doing this for years before I got this one & continue to do so - though not as often. I usually let the crock sit out on the counter for 15 - 30 minutes to let it start to "warm up". (We keep our refrigerator colder than most people I think.) Then I only ever put it on LOW.

I've never had a problem with it this way, but thought I should tell you what the manufacturer said. ;)

Deb

Thanks for the tip, Deb. I will be sure to let the crock come to room temp before I put it in to heat.

:)

Thanks for the offer, Carol, but I've given up on brownies. I can't even cook the ones from a box right. They always come out underdone or like bricks. I can make an awesome chocolate cake, though, so that's what I usually substitute when asked for brownies.
