Quick help please about a dosage??

I'm supposed to give my dog half a pill for every 40 pounds of body weight, twice daily.

He's 65-ish pounds. Would that be 1 and half pills a day total? Or 2 - I suck at math.

40 = 1 pill
20= 1/2 pill
I would not worry about the extra 5 pounds
That is twice a day so a total of 3 pills a day

I think I wasn't clear, it's 1/2 a pill (twice daily) for every 40 pounds though (why do they make it difficult?) So setting up the way you did:

(we'll say 60 pounds)

120 pounds total for two doses - 1/2, 1/2, 1/2 (40*3 is 120)

So 1 and 1/2 pills a day.

What drug are you giving him? It's usually ok to round up, but the drug and why does factor into dosing.

The PP is incorrect. It would be 1 &1/2 pills per day, not 3. Often the dosing per day is divided equally, if possible. In that case you'd cut them into quarters and dole them out (3/4 each dose, twice daily). What does your vet want you to do?

Glucosamine/Chondroitin, the vet said to follow the dosing on the bottle!

I called, but they are on lunch, so left a message.

Yes, vet called back and said I could give one pill in the morning and 1/2 pill at night- actually he gets them during breakfast and dinner. I just put it in with his food and he eats it without knowing it's there!
