I have the mid-afternoon habit-munchies. Meaning, I'm not really hungry, I'm actually still full from lunch, but I want to eat something. This has become a habit for me -- usually at this time of day, I'm munching on either chips or a cookie from the cafeteria. I do have some corn chex, mini-vanilla wafers, and cashews here so I have some options that while not totally healthy are *healthier* than the cookie that I resisted grabbing at lunch. But, the fact remains I'm not really hungry, I just want to eat something! I've tried a walk, getting a fresh bottle of water (wow, I've gone through 3 today... that's a lot for me for this time of day), a couple of sips of my diet RC, gum... none of those are working.

Help me resist!!

Put down whatever you have in your hand........or thinking about putting in your hand. You can do it. Fight it, resist the urge.........you can do it!

You might want to have asomething legal ( a small snack) just to keep your blood sugar from dropping. I find that once I get really hungry I get cranky and want to eat everything in site.

Keep up the great work. That was smart to come to WISH to keep the food out of your hands. Someone mentioned the other day about thinking about whatever you were going to eat hanging off your butt! Try using that visual.

Hang in there,
Melanie

Just think of those cookies hanging all over your butt!!! It works for me!!! Beanie said that about biscuits the other day, and now I don't even want to see one EVER again!!

Rajah, you can do this!!!! We're behind you all the way!!! Just think of all you've already accomplished! In the words of Nancy Reagan----Just Say No!!!! (But not always easy to do, I know--so here's some PD to get you through) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Well, if I were *hungry*, I would nibble on something. I know I will later this afternoon since I'm working until 7 and won't be able to get dinner until about 8:30 or 9 and that's too long for me to go. But if I'm going to munch in the 4 or 5 timeframe (which is when I need it for the bloodsugar low to hold me over until dinner) I don't need to munch now, too.

Oh, and it just got worse -- the cookie lady just came around. I used to get a cookie every afternoon and today I resisted at lunch. Now she's tempting me by ringing the bell *right* at my habit-munchie time.

Just go slap that evil cookie lady!!!

Do you have a co-worker you can depend on? Buy a cookie, have one bite (that will satisfy your sweet tooth) and then give it to your co-worker to dispose of. Or if the cookie lady has something verrrry, verrry small you could get that. I remember reading a thread a little while ago about sweet things that are low point on WW--so they won't have many calories. Do any co-workers have a candy stash? An individual bite size piece of candy shouldn't have very many calories?

LOL!

She's really a very sweet lady. :)

I do have a coworker, but she's not helping -- she just came back with 5 cookies (4 to take home for her sons and DH, 1 for herself). But, on the other hand, she was able to tell me the cookie lady didn't have the flavor I really wanted so that part did help. :D

I do have some hard candies, too, but I don't want those right now because of the sugar. I need to get some sugar-free versions of the same candy (those creme savers hard candies).

I'm feeling a little better now. Thanks. :) For some reason (that's the habit time) the 2-3 hour is the worst. After that, I can typically hold off until I'm actually hungry in the 4-5 timeframe.

I really feel much better if I make myself eat a small snack at 10am and 3 pm- it usually consists of a 1/2 an apple or fruit of some sort- or 6-8 jumbo cashews or pistachios- I love pistachios best because you have to work to get those little suckers out- and 10 pistachios gives me enough chewing to get over my cravings. Plus they're high in protein- just try to avoid foods with sugar/refined flours in them- stick to a natural snack and you'll do fine!!
You're doing great and learning when you need to eat something- just not food that doesn't have many benefits for you!

GREAT JOB- Keep it up!!!

Ahhhhh, but that's how they do it, you know. They act all nice and sweet, but underneath their hearts are as black as a chocolate chip! Never trust the cookie lady!

Well, I gave in on one (just one though!) hard candy. That will satisfy my sweet tooth until dinner and will tide over the munchies until I honestly get hungry. Better one hard candy rather than a handful of munchies when I'm not really hungry. And one hard candy doesn't have that much in it bad for me when I looked at the info on it. :)

When I get *hungry* later, I'll munch on some cashews or corn chex.

Thanks all. :) I just didn't want to sit here nibbling on chex, cashews, or the vanilla wafers for the next 2 hours, which was about to happen. LOL! And I knew I did not need the full cookie I wanted! :D

Good for you, Rajah! You did it!! I know you don't follow WW, but a Tootsie Pop is worth just 1 point. I have found them to be a great satisfying snack when I am not really hungry but need *something*. You get the candy, you get the chocolate, you get hard, and you get chewy - all in one convenient little package! hee hee I try to always have some around, "just in case". ;)
