Quick GAC question- trip this weekend

I know there are lots of threads on this, and I've read the super thread and understand they aren't front of the line passes, and I'm not looking for that, just need some practical advice...

I recently (last week) had a nerve tumor removed from my leg just under my knee. We are going to Disneyland this weekend for my DDs birthday. While the incision and stitches are mostly healed, I have residual nerve pain that gets really bad when I stand too long or if it gets bumped at the site... Doctor said I'm good for minimal activity- so, for those of you who have needed and utilized GAC, is this something that will help me in 2 days of touring? We may rent a wheelchair to assist me when needed, and if so, how do I go about getting one? I don't want to take advantage of this system, as I know it's a blessing to those who truly need it.

Any advice? I dont want my problems to keep my dd from enjoying her bday at DL! Thank you!!!

If you rent a wheelchair, it kind of "speaks for itself" as far as being able to use the handicap entrances to rides. The GAC are more for conditions that aren't easily visible. If you will not be renting a wheelchair but standing for long periods will present a physical problem for you, then you can get a GAC and explain to them what your limitations are (standing for prolonged periods). They may suggest you rent a wheelchair. I'm sorry, I'm not sure where you go about getting the wheelchair though.

If you can walk to the parks then you can rent a wheelchair there for a pretty small cost.

If you will need the wheelchair off-site, then you can maybe rent a wheelchair from Deckert's (an off-site company). (714) 542-5607 You can definitely rent an ECV from them, which is preferable if you are planning to go off alone or if your party will have trouble pushing you. I understand that Disney's solution for endurance issues is to tell you to rent a wheelchair or an ECV, so a GAC may or may not help you at all.

My mom (who has fibromyalgia) rented an ECV from Deckert's and it made it probably the best trip she's had in years. She was able to keep up with or (in many cases) PASS me! We mostly used it to go from land to land...then we'd park it, explore that area, and then move to the next land. SO, it might really help you keep up with your family, but a wheelchair may work great for you too.

Have a great trip!

I would say if you can walk at least 1/4 mile without pain, then renting a wheelchair or ECV is not the right course of action for you, as they can be a pain to deal with in the parks. So a GAC would be a better choice in this situation; however, if you can't do this, then rent an ECV, it is a lot better than a wheelchair.

Only you know your limitations. That said, I had a medical situation earlier this year that limited me to - doctor's orders - being on my feet no more than 45 minutes at a time. Also, my walking was V E R Y slow. We decided for me to be in the Park, I needed either a wheelchair or ECV because between walking from one place to the next and waiting in line, 45 would add up quickly. To make life easier for those with me, we paid for an ECV.

Sometimes, a GAC can actually make your wait longer. There may be places to sit while waiting or elimination of stairs or other special accommodations, but it does not always mean a shorter wait. If being OFF your feet is key, you may want to seriously think about a wheelchair or ECV.

Thanks everyone- I think we will rent either a wheelchair or ECV to help me get around the parks, and I should be able to manage some walking within lands. May also see about having a GAC in addition to help with some lines which may be more difficult to maneuver. I'm fine not riding a lot, we have APs, so I know I'll be back again in a month or 2... Thanks for the advice! We're getting ready to drive down! It will be fun no matter what!
