Once we are in the parks, if I have a FP and decide NOT to use it, do I have to just let it expire or can I go on MDE and cancel it to book something else?

You can change it on your app for another one, subject to availability. Once you've used up your original three (or let them all expire) then you can make a 4th, but only at a kiosk.

We had that happen a few times while we were there. For whatever reason (danged i i can remember now) we just decided we wanted to change things up. We don't have a smart phone that is able to support the MDE app (hubby has a Blackberry) so we went to the Kiosks and had no problem at all. Once we were able to co-ordinate with a family beside us so they could snag our Mine ride when we dropped it since that's what they were searching for :thumbsup2.

So i can't answer about using the APP but i do know that you can change them up before you use them at the Kiosk :thumbsup2

You don't need to have the app to adjust FP+ selections. If you have a smartphone that has internet access you can just log in using the regular disney website as well. That's what I did when I went in Oct since I haven't updated my OS on my phone so can't get the latest app.

I used the app and you can change a FP+ as long as the time window has not yet opened. Let's say you have a FP+ for the HM at 10:00 am to 11:00 am. You can change it to some other attraction (that still have FP+s available) at any point before 10:00 am. Once the window opens, you cannot change it using the app.

you can use the app, log on to your mde account, or go to a kiosk.
you must do so before the window for the FP you want to change opens.
don't CANCEL it though. just say CHANGE EXPERIENCE.
you can see what other attractions are available to change it to but unfortunately (on the app anyways) you will not know what time it will be for until you confirm that you want to change it.
it will not be an even swap as far as the time goes.

Thanks!!
So what happens if you do CANCEL vs change? Just out of curiosity?

I learned this the hard way. So, if you walk up to your FP+ attraction, find it's only a 10 minute Standby wait, you can't change to another attraction. I believe this restriction was necessary to allow Disney to achieve their goal of crowd dispersal.

Interesting! So what if at 10am the standby is low, but my FP isn't until 3:00pm, can I change it at 10am or anytime before that 3:00 window opens?

I was constantly changing my FP+ once we saw something was low wait times. I always changed it through my app because my app was always showing extra FP+ that the kiosks were not showing.

Like Soarin at Epcot and Space at MK

When it was time to book my 4th and 5th FP+ I would pick whatever they showed available and then go into my app and change it to what we really wanted, things the kiosk was not showing available.

VERY helpful! Thank you!

You can change up to the opening of your window, just not within it.

I thought it was just me! On my trip, I realized I didn't want to rush to my FP, & just wanted to move it to later. My window had opened about 2min prior and I could no longer adjust my time. I wasn't sure if it was just a glitch or the designed method.

I posted a question about it here when I returned and several people assured me you COULD still change it after your window opens as long as it hasn't completely expired. I wonder if it can be done from a browser and not the app? It definitely stinks because I imagine it could be fairly common that someone doesn't realize until early in their window that they just won't make it and would like to switch.

Do you mean, change you change your FP+ reservation to a different time and/or attraction?

Let's go with the HM example...let's say you have a FP+ for 3:00 pm, but you wander by at 10:00 am and the standby line is short. You can ride it at that point (not using FP+). After (or before) riding HM, you can modify the 3:00 pm FP+ to see what else is available. As long as the FP+ window has not opened, you can modify it. The only caveat is you cannot have two of the same FP+ reserved (after you've used your third FP+, you can start repeating because you'll only have one FP+ reservation at that point).

When did this change? We were there Oct. 17-26, and we changed FPs multiple times after the window opened.
Were you using a browser, a kiosk, or the app? I was using the app (Android) and I could not change my FP+ reservation once the time window began. I was there about the same time as you.

The app, every time. We showed up to the Land in the middle of our window and the wait was less than 15 minutes, so I switched it to Test Track with no issues. It was a nice surprise to score that so late in the day. We routinely changed things at MK. Probably 6+ times in that park alone.

No idea then...I tried switching/cancelling a FP+ for HM about 15 minutes after the window opened and I wasn't able to do that. There were others things available, so that wasn't the issue (I was able to get a 'fourth' FP after the HM one expired). So, I have no idea why it works for some and not for others.
