I'm looking to buy some diapers to send to my niece and I'm a little confused on size.

I see a big box of 192 Pampers that says "size 1-2". Does that mean some are size 1 and some are size 2? Or are they all the same size?

And with pampers, what is the difference between "newborn" size and size 1?

Yes. Those boxes contain two different sizes. The sizes are newborn, 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. Babies are not normally in newborns for very long. I would suggest the box with size 1-2 on it.

Here is a link for the website, if you look down the left side you will see numbers that designate sizes and then pick one of the brands and you will be given sizes. Basically it all depends on the babies weight. My son was born at 8 lbs so he fit in the newborns about a week and jumped through sizes really quickly so the 1-2 were better than just 1. On the other hand, my daughter was a preemie so she was in the tiny sizes for months and months. If you are not sure just pick them up at a national chain like Wal-mart and tape the receipt to the package so they can be exchanged if necessary. Congratulations on the new member of your family:goodvibes

actually they are an in between size...kinda like a 1.5 if the 1's are too small but the 2's are too big....

Maybe that is dependent on brand? The ones I had had a sleeve of ones and a sleeve of twos. DD is still only in a size three.

possibly? I googled it and according to the pampered site they are a in between size...but they very possible could come together also...

No, with Pampers, the 1-2s and the 2-3s are i- between sizes, NOT two different sizes in one box. 1-2s are larger than 1s and smaller than 2s, and so forth. HTH :)

Most newborns will not fit in size 1 diapers. They need newborns for the first 1-4 weeks IME.

i had this exact box of pampers (from amazon) and it was 192 of an in-between size. however, i found them to be a little on the small side. by the time we used up our newborns (squished her into the last pack) then moved on to 1s, we sped thru the 1s and started the 1-2s but she outgrew them before we could use them all. FYI, she is 7 1/2 months and i just opened up Huggies size 3s--Huggies seem to me to be Pampers -and-a-half, if that makes sense. So a Huggies 3 is like a Pampers 2.5. She was born 8 lbs 10 oz and wore Newborns for a month or so, sped thru 1s, and wore 2s for maybe 3 months? I could have moved on to the Huggies 3s sooner. All of this to say that the giant boxes of the smaller sizes tend to be too much unless baby has absolutely no other diapers, which usually isn't the case with newborns b/c of baby showers. I'd go with smaller packs of smaller sizes unless you are the sole diaper supplier, or else buy a giant box of a bigger size like 2s or 3s! Hope this helps!

(Also, you never know with babies. My older daughter was so large (10 lbs 6 oz) that they had to go find her some size 1s in the hospital. Newborns were like a bikini on her!!):rotfl:
