DH and I came down for the weekend to see Carsland but decided to stick to DL until tomorrow when the AP blackouts kick in. So we got into the park around 12:30 and decided to try to get lunch at Carnation.

When we checked in, we were told we would have a 20 minute wait. It was closer to 12-15 minutes and we were seated. I had heard about the deep fried pickles on twitter and knew I wanted to try them, but DH turned up his nose at them. So I ordered the pickles and then we each ordered a burger and DH asked if they could put bacon on it and the CM said she would check and DH said it was no big deal either way.

Soon enough, our pickles come. Basically they are mini dill pickle spears rolled in panko crumbs and Parmesan cheese and deep fried. The only way to describe them is...I think I had a religious experience. Lol The outside is crunchy and the saltiness and the slightly sour taste of the dill...my mouth is watering right now thinking about them. Now at that point DH has not tried one. I finally talk him into it and he immediately agreed that they are now one of our new favorite things to eat at Disneyland. I can't say enough good things about them.

I wish I could say the same about the burger. Our CM did end up getting us both bacon on our burgers, which was awesome. But the brioche bun it came on was crumbly and fell apart as we were eating it. It was just ok. The seasoned fries on the other hand very delicious!

Overall, I enjoyed the new carnation and will eat there again soon.

Thanks for reading,

I got addicted to fried pickles at a conference I went to in Nashville.

Glad to hear there are some in DLR so DH will finally get to taste what I have raved about. :rotfl:

I agree with Indygirl, got addicted to deep fried pickes in the midwest and southeastern states 35 years ago. There are many varities, all are good to fantastic. One benifit to having traveled so much, is all the great food you find...:cool1:

We had lunch there on Wednesday, and I ordered the chicken fried chicken (boneless chicken breast battered and fried). It comes over mashed potatoes and milk gravy with saccotash on the side. It was really good! I missed that I couldn't order my usual chicken pot pie (no longer on the menu), but this was good too. My daughter got the cheese burger and it looked so good. Potato soup was delicious as always. We wanted to try the yummy looking deserts, but we were all toast at that point! I feel like I gained 3 pounds from that meal alone. Back home now and back to my healthy eating, but it was fun while it lasted.:goodvibes

Oh, and Oscar was there as usual, and stopped by to talk to us and we got a picture with him and my daughter. I am always amazed because he seems to recognize us and even remembers my name. We go to DL about 3-4 times a year, and always try to eat at Carnation once.

Ha Ha you crack me up!:lmao:. I cant wait to try one!

I had dinner at the Carnation Cafe on Thursday night. I was a walk up and I only waited about 5 min. I was also asked if I wanted to eat inside or outside. I chose inside. I had the Spinach salad w/ grilled chicken. I'm not sure what it's called on the menu. It was very good and I would order it again. It had quartered hardboiled eggs on the sides of the plate, carmelized onion, and bacon bits. I had the coconut cake for dessert, just planning on taking a couple of bites to try it - but it was so light that I ate most of it.

I like how the Carnation Cafe now has a more upscale feel. And I have to say that the service I got as a single diner was really fabulous. I think they must go out of their way to pay attention to single diners, because whenever there was a lull, a server would come over and ask about my day etc. I probably had 4 mini conversations with various servers. I was very impressed with that.

We had walked up on Wed night, and it was a bit of a mess. They said they paged and called DH's name..but we were right on the little window seat and never heard anything, nor did the pager go off. After about 30mins, DH said something, we got the above story then were seated. We ordered the fried pickles, which we got right away and I loved. Our entrees did not come for another 10-15mins after they took the pickle plate away. My vegan burger was disappointing. :( But this was the first day open, so I did not get too disturbed by it.

However, we have breakfast reservations for Friday morning. They sat us right away, but we asked to be moved since there were 2 wait staff standing right next to me (literally, one was standing right beside me) and it was freaking me out. Our breakfast was amazing. I had the Huevos Rancheros and LOVED it. We will stick to breakfast I think. Now, if they would get better coffee (and maybe soy milk..LOL).

We are definitely planning to do breakfast when we go back in September. I'm thinking i will have to try the Huevos Rancheros.

Here is a pic of my breakfast that was so delicious. I will get the rest of them off my phone in the next day or so.

Question--do they still have the matterhorn sundae or the banana split for desserts? The menu on the disney website has them listed, but I heard someone say they couldn't get the sundae anymore. Is that true? We're all worried our favorite treats are gone :(
