For those of you that have dined at V & A, how many courses are there? We are trying it for the first time and I'm a little confused. When I look at the menus, it looks like there are choices? Do you choose one item from each section? We were not able to get the Chef's Table, but I can try to waitlist. How is that different than the dining room? Is the menu the same?

We are really looking forward to this meal. We have been lucky enough to have some really great dining experiences here in Chicago (True, Alinea, Charlie Trotters...) It will be fun to see how this will compare. Thanks for any info that you can share.

You begin with a complimentry amus bouche this is pre determined by the chef and is usually a light tid bit that just wakes up the palette.

There are 6 course which come after starting with the lightest flavors and building to the richest ending with dessert. You usually have the choice between 5-7 options in each course. You may be able to select certain entrees (usually the pricier items such as foie gras or wayuga kobe) for an additional charge.

I do recommend the wine pairing as well...the sommeilier always gets it right!

We are from NYC and have some amazing 4 star dining experiences and for food and service it is still in our top 3 favorite restauraunts...you will enjoy yourself!

V&A really is an amazing experience.

Just looked out my menu....after the amuse bouche, you will have a cold app(3), hot app (3), seafood app (3), entree (5). Then you have the choice of a cheese plate or gelato, then finally desert (7). The numbers in brackets are the number of options for each course. Neither myself of BF like seafood and so we both had 2 hot app courses instead of a seafood course.

we did the wine pairings and i would definately recommend it, Im not a massive fan of wine but the foot made the wine taste better, and vice versa.

top to bottom, cold buffalo tenerloin app with radishes and blood orange vinaigrette, hot peppered quail app, kurobuta pork app, veal teneroin entree.
We made all the same choices until the end, where james took the cheese plate and i had the gelato, then finally james took the trio of chocolate deserts, and i had the caramelised banana gateau.

WOW! That looks awesome. Thanks for posting pics. I have been twice, but that was 10 years ago. I can't wait to go back. We LOVED it. Esp. the wine pairings - BUT, have another way to get home besides driving!!

Becky, if you've been to those places in Chicago, then V&A won't disappoint. I would rank it as high-end as the rest you mentioned here in Chicago.

What did you think of the cheese plate? I ordered it cause it had oregon cheese and we are from Oregon.

The chocolate trio is very good and the japanese wagyu is my favorite!
It was very good food and the atmosphere was very nice. We even got to talk with the chef about Oregon and how he visits our state often for vacation. Go figure!

I think you will enjoy it. It is definitely one our favorites! I hope you have agreat time.

Becky: At the Chefs table the menu is the same, but you get (if you want it) everything on the menu.
And actually some of those choices on the regular menu cost EXTRA--frois gras, for example. And Kobe beef.

You can get the chefs menu in the main dining room. I went to V&A on the sunday before I had my adr. Asked them if I could have it,was told they would ask the chef when I got back to my room there was a message saying I could have it it is really worth trying.

Paulasb12 - by the chefs menu, do you mean everything on the menu? Wow, that would be a lot of food! I could ask for this in the main dining room? Is there a price difference? I would think there would have to be a significant increase. Thanks for all of the feedback. We are getting really getting excited!

We have a reservation to eat here when we go in Sept. for our Honeymoon. I'm really looking forward to it and am loving all the info on it. I'd love to hear more info about what the difference is between booking the chef's table and the main dining room? Also, does anyone know if they do anything special for you here if you are celebrating your honeymoon? AND, I know jackets are required for guys...is a just above the knee-length spaghetti strap bubble dress ok for me, or should I be...umm...wearing more clothes? It's hot in September!
