Questions regarding Pirate Night?

My family and I board the Disney Dream for a 4-night cruise in a few weeks. Can anyone shed some light on Pirate Night? Specifically, how dressed up due the adults get? Are the majority of adults in costume or just a few? For little girls, are they in costume other than Pirates or Tinker Bell (ok to wear Princess costumes)? Is it true that all guests are given a bandanna at the meal to go with the theme?

People do dress up a lot, most cruisers do and some are as good as Captain Jack and beat the DCL ones, ladies tend to dress up as a pirate them but girls can go as a princess if they wish but that's best on another dress up night.
People really do dress up a lot

BUT not everyone dresses up, so you are certainly not going to be alone if you choose not to.

Yes- There will be a bandana in your stateroom for everyone registered in that room.

There is a HUGE variety of what you'll see as far as costumes from children and adults. Some people do nothing- like my husband, so I decided he would wear his red polo shirt that night. lol That's as costumed as he was going to get. The girls and I love dressing up, but didn't want to take up too much space so we fashioned pirate costumes out of things we had in black/white/red- the top of a store bought pirate costume mended to not be a vixen with black bottoms, the red/white sash from said costume on another child with white top/black bottoms, pirate printed shirt, accessories and make up scars, "weather beaten" hair and/or bandanas.

We saw other people like my husband- not dressed up. We saw people completely decked out in store costumes, home made costumes, costumes cobbled together like ours. There were princesses, Captains (Hook & Jack Sparrow), Peter Pans, Smee's, Lost Boys and proper sea captains. It's a lot of fun whether you dress up or not. We saw more "adults" dressed up on the 4 night than the 7 night, but on both everyone seemed to be having a good time.

You'll find a wide variety among both adults and children -- from those who go "all-out" with costumes to those who wear just the provided bandanna to those who do nothing pirate-related at all. Do what you are comfortable with and you won't be out of place. It is perfectly acceptable for little girls to wear a princess dress any night they wish; thought Just a note -- on our Dream cruise the bandanna was in the stateroom prior to dinner, but note that it is rather small.

Enjoy your cruise!

I think of dressing up on Pirate Night the same way several of my seminary professors talked about confession in the Episcopal Church: None must. All may. Some should.

:)

And I still chuckle thinking about another all-adult family on the same cruise we were on our first. We had been hanging out in the concierge lounge (my dad chose to book concierge...and yes, we have all cruised as "commoners" since and love it just as much) with the other family (maybe the meet and greet time??) where the father was all out and the mother was in process of getting all out. Their daughter - who looked to be around my sister and my age - was shaking her head and rolling her eyes at the fuss they were making. She wasn't planning on any dressing up (we were just doing something with the little bandanas ourselves). Well, a little later when my sister and I were heading to the lounge for drinks, the daughter was in the hall being laced into the corset of a dress by her mother. She looked at us and mouthed "Save. Me." We just shook our heads in sympathy. Hee hee!

I'm still debating whether I should dress up for Pirate night or not...

Pirate night is so much fun. The characters are in there pirate gear for the evening photos, There is a fun deck stage show and then ofcourse the fireworks and the special buffet in Cabanas. You should dress up as little or as much as your want. I've worn my Pirates of the Caribbean tee for my last 2 cruises with the bandanna but I think that this time we are going to go all out with pirate costumes! As for your little one, She can wear what ever she wants to. They use to have a pirate and princess party at WDW so have a princess to keep all the pirates in line would be just fine. ( You might want to make a little tee shirt with a pirate mickey heard and bring just incase she sees other dressed as a pirate and wants to change though. That with a little darker colored tutu or shirt would be cute) And they do give bandannas but we brought our own as they are small

LMAO. This is going to be my mom this cruise. She doesn't know that we are dressing up this time.. *insert evil laugh*

I would do what ever you are comfy with but the more involved you are the more fun I think you will have but just don't get something that you will be fighting with all evening and can't enjoy the experience and atmospher

On our first cruise we went all out and dressed up and it was great, on the second we didn't and it was still great...but my choice is to dressed up and really get into the party, it is a lot of fun plus you can get a lot of cool photos.

We are leaving on our first cruise in a few weeks-we are getting dressed up for pirate night...why not?! We want to have some fun with this and get some cool pics too.

DW likes to get all dressed up as a lady pirate. I usually just wear a pirate themed Aloha shirt with some pirate themed beads I picked up in New Orleans, though I did get all dressed up last year. My dream is to dress up like Captain Barbossa.

We get very dressed up.

As others have mentioned you'll find the a wide range of participation for pirate night (from none to complete pirate costume). I have a four day Disney Dream cruise planned for later this year and I plan on brining my complete pirate costume. I don't get to wear it that often so every chance I get I take advantage of.

Will there be Tinks as well? I think the 2 yr olds Tink costume will fit her by then, so I was thinking we'd do that as its easy to pack. I would love to be totally decked out, but we are doing the Northern European cruise and I'm afraid of having too much luggage to deal with, since on top of luggage I also have a stroller and of course the toddler herself!

We dressed up! I just cut up a white undershirt and added some fun fabric strips. Wore it with black skirt/leggings. Husband went even more simple with a funny pirate shirt. Our daughter LOVES pirate stuff so I got a terrific costume on Amazon (less than $20!). I think it adds to the evening to get dressed up a bit. Our extended family included two tinkerbells as well (ages 1 and 3). :)

It all boils down to choice. You will see quite a mixture as everyone has stated and my own advice is that if you like to dress up do it but if not, go as you are. Most people are watching the show on deck or the fireworks in the sky to really notice anyone else.

My DD was somewhat dressed in pirate attire but I wouldn't go buying a full costume to lug all the way from Canada to Florida for her however there are people who will.

Enjoy!

We got all dressed up, and I was surprised that we were in the minority (3-night Dream on 1/2/2014). However, I highly recommend getting dressed because these were the best pics of the cruise.
