Questions Regarding Disapalooza

Hey Guys!!

I’d like to first introduce myself to the crowd, my name is Anthony, and I have been a lurker on the boards for quite some time now.

I have never missed a podcast, always wanted to go on Podcast Cruise 1.0 and may have the opportunity to actually attend Disapalooza. The only problem is I am having the most difficult time getting anyone to go with me; my family is so tired of Disney because we have gone so often over the past few years. And to add insult to injury, I am a 22 years old frat boy and everyone looks at me as though I am a complete nut job when I mention Disney, let alone an awesome community like the DIS. It’s almost as if I mention we begin allowing members to join without pledging.

I am just looking for a bit of comfort in knowing that other people are going alone and may have the same feelings of being a bit of an outsider not really knowing the rest of the group. I know that this group is an awe-inspiring and welcoming community, but you all know each other from the PCC 1.0 and the TSM meet during Mousefest. And this could just very well be my self consciousness talking, but it’s a bit of a sacrifice to make to just be alone in WDW with no one to enjoy it with!

So sorry if I am being a nuisance, but I also wanted to know… should I purchase my ticket to Disapalozza now before the event sells out and notify John if I cannot make it prior to the event? Because to be honest, I do not want to be selfish, I would much rather allow another Dis’er who has their plans set to attend. I know this is a lot to take at once, but so much could happen from now to then… and with my graduating in December… it really makes me wonder what could happen.

Thanks for all your help guys, keep doing what you do podcast team! You guys bring smiles and joy to this community on a daily basis, and for that you guys should really be commended!! Keep your fingers crossed that my manager approves my PTO and if so, hopefully I’ll see ya there.

Come to DAP!

I guarantee you won't be an outsider. You couldn't find a more welcoming group. I was an "outsider" until MF last year. Went down not knowing a soul and was taken in with open arms. :goodvibes

Welcome to the fun! I am going into DAP not knowing anyone either. I'm not going along though, I have two in tow. But as far as being the only grown up in my group, that's me. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! See you in December.

I certainly understand your reservations. Being a basically shy person myself I was a bit concerned about the same thing before I took the plunge.

But I can also tell you that you'll be among friends at DAP. All of us have a love for Disney and have a great time sharing that. Its easy to strike up a conversation with everyone you meet because we all have that in common. Many of us have developed long-lasting friendships after meeting our fellow DIS'ers only once.

Come on in. The water's fine.

:welcome:

Please come to DAP. You will have a great time and the chance to meet in person the people you talk with on the computer.

Be sure you stop by and talk to the Podcast team. We would love to meet you.

I was a one time lurker, can't say that now:rotfl2:.

I have not met any of these wonderful people in person yet, only know them through the boards and FB.

I recommend jumping in, join in on the DAP thread - it gets a little crazy but I expect that will find a post or two everyday that contains a conversation you can join. This is a friendly, welcoming group of people.

Look forward to meeting you at DAP

I've been here since the beginning and have never met the podcast fans, and I am going... I can't wait to meet everyone... Come one and join us we are gonna have a blast!!

I was going to go alone too, but through the DIS, I found a great roommate, who has become a great friend as well. Go for it. You might come alone, but you'll return friends with many of us.

I will be coming solo also, but have already made friends with many Disers some I have met and others I only know online and can't wait to meet in person.

Yes, I would highly recommend that you come. You will be surrounded by friends that will have much in common with you. You never know, you might make a friend or two.

Plus you're from Jersey. Lots of people from Jersey.

When I went to Mousefest last year, I only two people (Alicia and Paul) and I wasn't even sure they remembered me!! I quickly made many new friends. We are a very welcoming and friendly bunch!! Please come, you won't regret it!! :)

Who's alone? I think there are going to be hundreds of us (I can practically hear the rest of the people visiting Disney at that time - "Oh, it's THOSE people!" - like we do when we see the Brazilian tour groups). You certainly couldn't have picked a nicer group to join Anthony. Are you on Facebook? Check out the link in my siggy if you are and add a few people. You'll be surprised by who you'll "know" in the next 1 1/2 months.

I have a DH and a DS10, but I'm going solo for DAP! My family usually comes first, and they know that, but there are times when we need to put ourselves first. I went solo last year to Mousefest and met lots of nice dis'ers. My DH has no problem with it. If the truth be told, he probably enjoys the break from me, too. :lovestruc

What I love about a solo trip . . . I can be with lots of people when I'm in a gregarious mood . . . then be alone when I'm in a reclusive mood. I'm a gregarious recluse. That's what we call an oxymoron - you know, like "smart man". [just kidding]

Oh you had better believe those are my plans! If I am treking all the way down for DAP, I had better spot some podcast team members!

Thanks for the welcome!

Plus you're from Jersey. Lots of people from Jersey.

I noticed just by reading some of the signatures, I feel like it may be a reoccurence of Jersey Week during DAP.

I am going to have to make one, I have a Facebook from my undergrad years, but to be honest have no idea what the password is. So I guess its time to make a new one!

HAHA thats funny, I never thought of it as I am always going somewhere with a group but being alone and meeting new people may be a very positive enriching experience.

I seriously want to thank everyone, you have totally changed my mind of doing this trip solo. And for what its worth I want to seriously say thank you. This is what the definition of community really is! Now, if I can only make you all turn into an angry mob and assist my boss in his decision of my time off for DAP. 'til then it will be a waiting game, until I am approved for my vacation. Thanks again for all your help, your all great people, and I cant wait to meet you! :grouphug:

LOL- do you think folks will eventually start saying......"i avoid that time year due to the DIS" just like folks say about POP Warner sometimes? :lmao::rotfl2::confused3:rotfl:

Welcome and please come out- these folks are the nicest bunch of computernut friends you could meet!

Please come to DAP! I went on the podcast cruise 1.0 as a solo. I now have friends for life from that trip. These people are really some of the greatest people you will ever meet. You won't regret coming! :goodvibes

Anthony, if you need any assistance is getting your boss to give you the time off, let us know, There are a couple of us Jersey Girls that can help him/her to see the light.

Now that the time off issue is solved, DO NOT MISS THIS!!!! Don't give a second thoughts to coming solo. This is the nicest group of people you will meet. Heck I like some of them better then I do my own family!
