Questions Regarding Disapalooza

I will echo everyone else's opinion, come to DAP.

Just be forewarned, you may not return home the same person. I know I was not after my first DIS Meet. (And I can't thank them enough because of it.)

Come to DAP!

I guarantee you won't be an outsider. You couldn't find a more welcoming group. I was an "outsider" until MF last year. Went down not knowing a soul and was taken in with open arms. :goodvibes

This might as well have been me posting. I had the EXACT same result from attending Mousefest last year. It was my first solo trip ever. :scared1:
I went to a few of the meets held by other Disney groups, but did not feel welcome at all. :guilty: I almost didn't show up for the DIS meet at Epcot for the DATW because of the way the other meets had gone. HOOBOY am I glad I went! :thumbsup2 The atmosphere was so different right from the start!
I knew then and there that I had finally found "my people".

So don't you worry! We'll take good care of ya. (take that for what you will) :rotfl:

Hey Guys!!
I am just looking for a bit of comfort in knowing that other people are going alone and may have the same feelings of being a bit of an outsider not really knowing the rest of the group. I know that this group is an awe-inspiring and welcoming community, but you all know each other from the PCC 1.0 and the TSM meet during Mousefest. And this could just very well be my self consciousness talking, but it’s a bit of a sacrifice to make to just be alone in WDW with no one to enjoy it with!

Anthony,
As someone who went on PCC 1.0 and knew no one, I can say YOU SHOULD COME. 99.9% of these people are amazing. The jury is still out on the guy wearing a tiara. (just kidding Todd)

If you travel allows for you to join us Friday at DATW at Epcot go for it. I guarantee as soon as you say hello to some of the group you will be drawn in and it will go from there.

So here is a hope that you get the time off and can go. I have met some great people here and as you can see by your post, there is lots of excitement to meet other DIS'ers,

It's your first time and all those other people already know each other and that's scary.....

Let me tell you this:
For everybody that is around, there was a first time......
As soon as you say Hi, to one of us, you are in!!!!!!!!
Everybody is as welcome as can be, solo travelers/groups anyone.

Just join us in the fun and you will see that your worries upfront was a stupid thing to do......

We don't know anybody either but I just couldn't miss a chance since we were planning on being there anyway.

My DH thinks I'm crazy but now that I can hook up my iPod to my car (it was really technical - I had to plug one thingy into another thingy but the Best Buy guys was certain I could manange myself) my DD's have been listening to the podcast too and have become fans.

Thought of something on the way into work this morning. Just because you are traveling solo, does not mean that you will be alone.

Echoing Todd -

Also check out the where are you staying thread - take note of the names of people staying at the same resort.

And share some of your travel information - you may be surprised some of us could be on ME with you.

I would also like to echo what everyone else has said - you must come! It can be overwhelming, but everyone is so welcoming, it's hard not to have a good time and meet some great people.

We have tons of solo people coming, and like someone else said, you can choose when you want to be with a group and when you want to be by yourself. It's an experience at Disney that is unlike any other!

Get your Facebook page up and running and get our links and names from Stacy's list - you get to know people on yet another level, and you will have lots more friends you will "know" when you arrive.

So I'm with the OP - trying to get together a solo trip. I have no doubt that it will be fun and no reservations about going solo. Problem is the budget and getting all my ducks in a row without sacrificing the family trip in the spring. Can anyone tell me what the cancellation policy would be for the DIS sponsored events? I didn't see the OP get an answer there. Also, I'm wondering what the charge is for each event. I'd hate to reserve a spot only to find out we can't afford it and have trouble cancelling.
What do ya'll think?

P.S. So glad everyone here on the DIS is so welcoming. A great bunch of people.

Ok, I answered part of my own question in case anyone else is wondering.
TSM tickets are $25 per person and non-refundable for any reason. If you choose not to attend you will still be charged AND the DIS will be required to pay WDW for your spot regardless of whether you are a no-show. I'll postpone sign-up till I can be sure. Now if only I knew how much the Marty Sklar event would cost . . .

I could be wrong (everyone is entitled to be once in their lifetime) but here is what I can recall:
•The cost for the Toy Story Midway Mania Party (Saturday 12/12, 9pm-12am @ Hollywood Studios) is $25 per person, non-refundable, payable by credit card upon signing up for the event (which must occur before a certain date to ensure credentials can be delivered to your home address) unless you are booking a stay through Dreams Unlimited Travel.
•The speaker event on Friday, 12/11 is being offered to TSMM Party go-ers then, if and only if there are more spaces, open it to non-party go-ers. Exact time, location and cost of speakers series has yet to be announced/determined. Most likely also non-refundable.
•The live Podcast recording is to be at the Swan/Dolphin Resort On Sunday 12/13. Time and exact location are yet to be determined. I believe this is a free event, however, you will need to use the TSMM Party credentials, as well as be pre-registered, to attend.

There are other meet ups and events that are being organized by DIS'ers, but not official DIS Events. Some of these include:
•Social viewing of Osborne Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios on Thurday 12/10 @ 6pm. Cost: Park admission.
•Yeehaw Bob @ Port Orleans Riverside on Thursday, 12/10 @ 8:30pm. Cost: Free admission. Buy your own food and drink.
•Kathy's Peeps ride "Journey Into Imagination" on Friday, 12/11, around 5pm. Cost: Park admission.
•Drink Around the World, Version DAP '09. Starting in Canada, World Showcase, Epcot @ 5:30. Cost: Park admission. Buy your own food and drink.
•Give Kids the World voluntourist experience. Donate a couple hours at Give Kids the World on Saturday 12/12 @ 8am. Cost: Transportation to/from GKTW~see thread about this, people are looking to share a taxi or rental car.
•Utilitarian viewing of the Osborne Lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios on Saturday 12/12 @ 7:30pm. Cost: Park admission.
•Brunch at House of Blues on Sunday 12/13 @ 10:30am (tentative). Cost: Price of brunch + tax & tip.
•Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on Sunday 12/13 (entry begins @ 4pm). Cost: Price of MVMCP ticket.

These are just some of the things that will be going on over the course of the weekend. I know for a fact at least two other major Disney fan groups are having events throughout the weekend as well.

If anyone has anything to add or edit about the above list, please let me know.

Hope that helps!!

That does help. Interesting to hear about order of priority for the Friday seminar (being offered to TSM guests first). That would mean DH would have to spring for the whole weekend rather than just Friday if seeing Marty is my priority.
Off to scheme and wring more blood out of a turnip . . . good luck everyone with your planning.

Wonder if there is DATW warm-up drinking permitted at this event? :dance3:

I am just going to have to buy Todd a Podcast 1.5 cruise, don't know if Daddy can wait 12 months for fun on the boat again...:rolleyes1

I didn't go alone the first time, and I was still scared. I like sitting behind a computer screen. No one can really "see" me that way. But, this is a great group of people.

Anthony,

You said that you were a 22 year old male? I think we have just the group for you to hang out with! :

Can't breath :rotfl2:

Reminder: We're trying to assure Anthony that it will be OK to come alone and that we are a SAFE group! :rotfl2:

Hope you can make it, Anthony. If you are a Disney fan, you'll never find a larger, nicer group of like-minded people to hang out with.

Anthony,

Come on and join the fun. It will be my first Dis event too!
