:sunny: I am interested in renting points but don't know how far in advance I need to rent them. I need 144 points for when I want to go either in March or Late April of 2007 at SSR. My home is at SSR but I don't want to use my own points as I am going with a bunch of my girlfriends and would prefer to just rent the points instead of using my own up. When should I rent my points????? and how do I know when they expire. I am all new to this as I have just bought and on this issue I am not quite clear. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me!!!!

Are you trying to rent your points or rent points from another member for your stay?? Don't forget you can transfer points into your account for your stay and utilize your member #...also this gives you full control over your reservation....

First of all, welcome to the DIS boards and congratulations on your new DVC purchase! :cool1:

You can begin your rental process right now. You are within the 11 month window for all SSR owners.

Or you can wait a bit until you know more about your travel dates (renting points with iffy dates is a pretty bad idea) and have any DVC owner book for you at the 7 month window. It probably won't be very difficult for that time of year at SSR.

As noted, the easiest way would be to transfer points from another member into your account. That way, the iffy travel dates become your issue only, and not the point owner's too.

Whoever is renting/transferring points to you can tell you what their UY is so you can figure out if they are expiring at a bad time for you.

Good luck. :)

If your girlfriends are paying for the points be sure to get the money up front and clearly state that there are no refunds. Things tend to come up, esecially when someone does not have anything invested. You do not want to be stuck with points that you can not use.

Thanks for all the info - I didn't know that I could transfer the points I rented in to my account. And I would definitely need to check on the use year too. I probably won't know for certain when I am going but I know it will be after the 11 month window for my home resort which is SSR. Because I am new to all this I am not sure how busy it is in March and Late April. And getting the $$$$ up front from everyone is the way it will have to be!! BIG HELP!!

I just booked my first ressie for September at BWV yesterday and am so excited there was availability!!! I was expecting the opposite and was pleasantly surprised. I can't wait!!! :thanks:

Don't wait too long, because March and April are spring break times, and things can book up quickly. Also, be sure you keep in mind when Easter week is, and avoid that one.

September is probably one of the easiest months to book any DVC resort, so not a big surprise there.

As Diane notes above, you do need to nail this down quickly and try to avoid Easter week (April 1-8) if possible.
