Questions from potential DVC Member

Just got back from Coronado Springs with wife and kids, and am EXTREMELY wanting to go back to WDW. Saw the DVC info but never made it to SSR. Was wondering, with everything I've heard about BC, and I know my wife would loooove it, should I buy resale for there, or go the SSR way through DVC. I understand some things, like I could use the points from SSR to stay anywhere I wanted, but does the 11 month vs. 7 month reservation window mean that much at BC?

Any help, greatly appreciated, and I hope to be "Welcomed Home" soon.

if you know you will love BC but are unsure about SSR.

If you feel you are most likely to want to stay at BCV most often, then that is where you should buy. It is one of the smaller DVC resorts, and therefore, the 11-7 month booking window is quite important there. On the other hand, if you wouldn't mind staying at SSR if you couldn't get in at BCV, then it probably doesn't matter.

Also depends on when you want to go.

If you want to be at the BC for christmas and the fourth of july every year, then you definitely need that bigger window that's your home resort.

If you prefer to travel when Disney isn't as busy then you could go with ssr and get the extra years in the contract.

We bought VWL resale, though, because we went where our heart was and that the contract was exactly what we were looking for...

If you buy DVC, you're going to own this contract for the next 40 years so buy where you want to stay so no regrets later. SSR is a nice resort but it's also going to be the largest SSR resort so getting in there might not be an issue and it will only get harder to get into the smaller resorts, BCV and VWL IMO.

You may want to rent pts at SSR and/or BC first before purchasing to make sure which resort will fit your needs. While I do not own at SSR I have to admit I was more impressed with the resort after I toured the rooms etc. I first only saw the restuarant and pool and was not impressed but seeing the whole resort helps. You should buy where to place on spending the most time. BC is very hard to get into if you don't own there.

Another question to ask are you able to book vacations 11 months out or are you more likely to book at 7 months or less, if not you may want SSR. Dues are cheaper and you get the extra years.

Thanx for all the info. With 3 small children (7, 5, and 3) I 'm thinking we're going to be going in the summertime for a verrrry long time, Easter and Christmas times just don't seem to fit right now, so there would be no "Peak" points hurdles for us to overcome. With that in mind I was thinking that 11 months out would be easy to plan for.

Buying resale at BCV will get you the following:

1. Make your wife very happy
2. Ensures you'll be able to vacation when you want (assuming you book enough in advance to use the 11 month booking window)
3. Save you several thousand dollars (OK, maybe a couple of thousand dollars)

Seems an easy decision to me!

Boy, you just got home and want to go back to WDW. You sound like all of us!

You can read the waitlist thread, that's sort of helpful in seeing what people want as opposed to what they were able to book. Also, you can read about successes.

Things will change but that's the way it is now. If you think you'll always want BCV and think you'll always book before the 7 month window opens for others, buy at BCV. We own at BWV, VB and VWL. I do not like using my VWL points anywhere else but there, I'm not as "fussy" about the other points, but I do HATE it when I'm booking "late" at BWV and have to pay for preferred view, and it isn't even Boardwalk view. However, we don't always know even 7 months in advance when another opportunity to go to WDW pops up. We are empty nesters, you are more locked into your family's schedule.

Boy you must really love WDW. Coronado Springs is the worst resort on property IMO. If you liked that conventioners type resort you'll love any of the DVC Resorts. I'd buy SSR and get the 50 years. Resales have to pass ROFR and that can be frustrating and take quite some time. We own SSR and never stay there. We've booked BCV at 5 months out, and we are going to VB and we got a Beach Cottage for a week at the seven month mark. Forget school calandars, if you are flexible with your schedule book off season where ever you want. Take the kids out of school for a week. Get the work from school before you leave. A week missed of school each year isn't going to hurt anyone. Summer time is a no go for our family. Oppressive heat, huge crowds, screaming babies isn't much fun. Try May, September, October and November or even January. Your visits will be far more enjoyable. I will say October will be tough to book at BCV because of the F&W Fest. Good luck either way.

I will be one of the first to tell you that "buy where you want to stay" is not the cure-all prescription for everyone, but I will also say that the 11 month window is probably more important at BCV than anywhere else.

Look through that thread, because there are a whole bunch of issues cussed and discussed there.

Just remember that your Home resort only gets you the booking advantage at ONE resort out of the seven (and almost certain to be more someday) resorts. Unless you've actually stayed at a specific resort or otherwise "know" it must be your Home, AND are consistently able to book trips more than 7 months ahead of time, I wouldn't sweat the Home decision too much. Concentrate on other issues like the differences between buying resale vs. direct, contract lengths and prices of each resort (including dues.)

Thanx again for the help. As I get closer and closer to a decision, the variables in use year, and banked/borrowed points in the resale is being weighed against the SSR direct purchase and the DVC incentive.
