Depending on what stage you are in school you might want to see if they offer photograpy in school and see what the class requires. Some may say they want you to use film cameras and others may want you to just go to digital straight off or the school may provide some so all are the same.

I like Nikon gear that is no secret :) and you can get a nice Nikon film body fairly cheap off Ebay or look in the classifieds or Craigslist.
Same thing with lenses with everyone going digital there is lots of great gear that is being tossed aside and can be had cheap.

If you decide to go digital and go Nikon look for a maybe a used D50 or a new D80 they have the gear in them that some models dont that will let you use the standard AF lenses that fit the film bodies above.

ok ill look around no my school does not have photography at this time il have to wait a year to see if HS has one.thanks!

If there is no official class offered check out getting on the year book staff you get to go to all the events and can learn how to shoot in a wide variety of situations.

Look and see if there is maybe a photography club also not always the coolest when you are in school but its an opportunity.

The holidays are coming and maybe you can talk to the family and they can get you a starter set up if you are serious about getting more into photography.

Come on guys how about some ideas for some books to help out with the basics.

Another great book on learning photography techniques is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. You can find it at the local library. It goes over basic techniques and concepts so you can learn the photographic triangle.

Oh... and last I heard Disney photographers were using Nikon D70 cameras, but I believe they are in the process of upgrading them to D200. That's what I heard through the grapevine! :)

Nothing beats experience. Take lots of digital pictures and learn from them about exposure, shutter speed, aperture, focal length, etc. Experiment with the use of flash....when does it work and when is it useless?

Take photos of the same subject from different angles and in different lighting conditions.

Another place to take classes is the local community or rec center. I took a photography class at mine once and there were several teenagers there. The teacher was a professional photgrapher and he brought a full lighting set-up and let us play with it. For 5 weeks and $55 I picked up some very valuable experience.

Also, I am the yearbook advisor for our middle school and although I don't have a class that works on the book, if I knew of a student who had your enthusiasm, I would find a way to use it! Best of luck to you!
