Questions for those who've worn long dresses and/or wings to MNSSHP.

Did it get hot and uncomfortable as the night went on to wear these gowns? Also, did you find them to be cumbersome during the rides? My dress goes all the way down to the floor.

What about wings? Did you take those off during the rides?

We are going to the Sept. 18 MNSSHP and I just remembered that I've had the perfect costume all along: i scored this really pretty, and fairly airy powder blue gown from the thrift store a couple of years ago. In fact, I've worn it as The Snow Queen a couple of halloweens ago and it was a hit! Now i'm thinking that if i pair this dress with blue fairy wings, a matching headband and a wand, then voila! I can be the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio! :goodvibes. I was even able to talk my costume-averse DFi into wearing a Pinocchio (or Jiminy cricket, I can't decide!) t-shirt so that we can match. I'm so excited! :wizard:

Edited to add: i just found a Gepetto costume for DFi on Amazon! This would be so perfect! Now I just need to convince him to wear it! :lmao: And how perfect would it have been if we had a little boy to dress up as Pinocchio? Maybe someday....:cloud9:

I have worn long dresses to MNSSHP twice - once as Ursula to DGrDs Ariel, another as wicked queen to her Snow White. The main consideration (IMHO) for MNSSHP is the heat - it is usually still wicked hot in FL in sept/early oct. Both of my dresses were sleeveless and cotton knit - so not too hot. They were also easy enough to get on and off the rides in - disney vehicles are large and open enough to accomodate larger, older and disabled people, so as long as your dress is not stiff or hooped, you should be able to pull and tuck it in for rides - I even did Space Mt with my tentacles. I did wear a pair of stretchy bike shorts underneath for comfort in climbing in and out of the vehicles and so I wasn't self conscious about gathering my dress up around my waist.;)

Your costume sounds so awesome - love the Blue Fairy - just make sure your wings are not the deal breaker - they might be the part that make rides difficult and walking around in a crowd they might get bumped. Have fun - love MNSSHP and dressing up!!:thumbsup2

My DD had a long gown on but wore shorts under so she could lift the dress to get on and off rides easily and my DGD had wings that were flexible and had no problems at all.

Have a great time and we went in Sept last time to, it was hot but doable with the costumes on. I was Nana the dog and survived! :wizard:

While I've never attended MNSSHP I have worn skirts both short and long to disney world. Never had any issues with it in the Magic Kingdom however it didn't go so well in Hollywood Studios. On the Tower of Terror when we went down my dress stayed up! :scared1: That was one ride photo I did not purchase!

As stated, the heat can be tough. My wife went as Princess Leia with the floor-length white outfit. She wore shorts and a sleeveless tee underneath. It was fine walking around and just a bit cumbersome on some of the rides. She managed to keep it on from 4p until about 10p when she finally succumbed to the heat and took it off for the rest of the evening. I had expected my boys (dressed as Yoda and Luke Skywalker) would also shed clothes and gear so I brought a backpack to stuff it all into.

Last year at MNSSHP my DD12 was Tinkerbell and I was Queen Clarion. I wore a gold calf-length, sleeveless dress (actually a beautiful dress I had gotten the year before for my husband's Christmas party but never wore because we decided to skip party). It was still quite warm with the dress (not really a breathable material) but being sleeveless and not completely full length helped.

My real problem was my wings. They were too big and kept flopping backwards and getting in the way. My daughters Tink wings were much more rigid and the size was perfect so hers never got in the way like mine did. If we ever repeat those costumes, I am switching wings.

I'm thinking about going as an angel, but instead of wearing wings, I'm going to wear a t-shirt with angel wings printed on the back. Maybe think of something like that?

I went as the evil Queen from Snow White in October 2006: hot artifical nose, hot professional-style makeup, hot homemade long dress...it was HOT. But the costume, I have to brag, was so awesome that I got a ton of attention...I have a pic posed outside of SNow White's Scary Adventures where I am holding an apple (a glittery one I crafted) that I love. But it was HOT. I wore a tank top and workout shorts underneath the dress, so I wasn't worried about climbing in and out of rides, the main issue was the wig. I have chin-length hair and do not know how people with long hair survive on rides like BTMR and SM!!! The hair was everywhere!

I mean HOT as temp-wise, not SEXY-wise, btw...:hyper:

I wore a long, fake-velvet dress last year as Bellatrix Lestrange... it was a little warm while the sun was up, but fine after sunset. No problems getting in and out of rides at all. However, this was on Oct. 31 - I'd have been sweltering in late Sept.

I was Sleeping Beauty the one time I did go to the MNSSHP, and the dress was made of a soft wool-like material that was fine at first but as the night went on it started to get hot and itchy. I eventually couldn't stand it anymore and had to switch to a different costume that was much better. I didn't have much of a problem with rides in the SB costume or the other, but the other costume came with a crown-like headband and that would slip off from time to time (I ended up taking that off).

I think it just really depends on when you go and what type of material the dress and wings are made of. We went the night before Halloween.

Have fun and I love your costume idea!

My family dressed up as the exact characters you are describing. I had no problem with my wings (this is a pic of us in line for Jungle Cruise, and I went on many other rides that night).

Instead of buying the costume, my mom made my husband a vest. We went to Michael's and bought an apron (they are SO cheap there, the type meant to be decorated) and he wore a shirt he already had. He went out and bought grey hair spray and glasses, and the look was complete!

I went once as the Redhead from Pirates. I don't remember being really hot, especially after the sun went down. No wings, but a big hat that had to come off on rides/shows.

Oh! I love this! You three looked adorable! I bet you got tons of compliments and people recognized you guys. I'm not sure if people will know who we are supposed to be though, especially without Pinocchio. We might have to resort to carting a Pinocchio doll around :lmao:

My dress looks a lot like yours too! My wings though, are a little bit bigger. Was your dress floor length?

Ooo...good idea about the apron. Maybe we'll go that route instead. The Gepetto costume has long sleeves and long pants :scared1:DFi would probably he really hot wearing

Yep, my dress went all the way to my ankles. It wasn't too ungodly hot wearing it, except for the line waiting for the 7 dwarfs. That area is like an oven even at night!

I hadmy mom send me the full length pic so you could see how we did my husband's costume.

Oh wow! I'm thoroughly impressed. Your parent just completes this picture! Mind if I copy your hubby's Gepetto. Oh and also, may I borrow Pinocchio? :rotfl:

Pinocchio is in his terrible twos - I will gladly lend him to you for a few days!:woohoo:

LOL - he sure was cute in the photos though!

My youngest DD and I were fairies last year. She is in a wheelchair, so her costume was sort of a fairy apron so we could get it on and off easily and she didn't have to sit on it. Her wings attached to her wheelchair.
Here she is as a fairy 2 years ago.

My costume was a tea length skirt with a leaf overskirt, a short sleeve top and a velvet belt. I was not too hot. My wings were a bit bigger than the Blue Fairy and were not a problem.
I'm looking to make more fairy-ish wings this year .
