I haven't visited SSR yet - first trip there in December (I own at WLV). Getting 200point add on whilst there, and would like to ask existing SSR owners some questions before deciding which resort to purchase these points at:

1) Did you stay at SSR on your first DVC trip?

2) If you didn't was this because you couldn't get a room there, or did you prefer to try another resort first?

3) Is SSR your favourite DVC resort?

4) Do you plan to spend at least 50% of your WDW trips at SSR, or a different resort? If most trips at a different resort - please specify?

Would be grateful for responses to gage how popular SSR is, in comparison with the existing resorts.

1. Yes, this past October
2. N/A
3. Too early to tell. I do have a Spring trip planned for VB
4. For me, it all comes down to timing. For a last minute type of trip I'll take what ever DVC I can get. If I do a family trip again that needs to be planned out, I'll take my home resort for the 11 month advantage.

1&2) I did not stay at SSR on my first trip after becoming a DVC owner because I needed 2 beds in a studio which I could only get at OKW. My mom and I went in early December for the Christmas season and neither one of us wanted to sleep on a pull-out sofa. I stayed at SSR on my next trip which was this past June and loved it.

3) That's a hard question to answer because each DVC resort has its own personality. I like each one for different reasons: OKW has larger rooms, BCV and BWV are within walking distance to Epcot and MGM, VWL is beautiful all the time but especially at Christmas, SSR is beautiful and close to DDT. I stayed at BCV with friends this past October for the Food & Wine Festival. It was just more convenient.

4) For a regular Disney trip, SSR would be my preferred resort. I love the decor and the proximity to DDT.

1. yes - It has some great advantages
2. I stayed at SSR
3. No, We like BWV
4. No, We like to try different DVC resorts.

But SSR is great. Not too many dissapointments and all resorts have weaknesses. Best things about SSR:
- DTD
- Beautiful Resort
- Community hall
- Workout room
- Great views

Worst
- Size - huge.
- Artist pallete
- Hallways (I like the indoor type of hallways)

1 - Yes I did! Actually am here right now! I LOVE IT!! :cloud9:

3 - So far it is my favorite DVC resort. Yesterday we took a tour of the 3bdrm villa at OKW and well I have no desire in any way shape or form to stay at OKW. The only reason I would stay there is for the Grand villa because they are fewer in points. Not even to cross it off my list of having stayed at all the Disney properties.

4 - Right now I will be booking here at SSR and change over at the 7 month window to stay at the other DVC resorts because I want to try them all. After I have done that I will be at SSR 90% of the time.

I am in love with this place. It is quite, quaint like its own little city. Very short walk to DTD for some nice shopping and food. Bus service is fantastic. They have all sorts of great things to do at Community hall like floral arranging with the Disney florests, ceramics, other neat member things. This is a great resort.

It sounds great. Wish i could see it - it's hard to tell what a place will be like from the pics. What's swinging it for me is the onsite spa. And also the proximity to downtown disney, which has always seemed to take an awful long time from the other resorts i have stayed.

Cobbler, how is the weather down there right now? I will be there next week.

The weather is great. It rained Mon and Tuesday here, off and on. I wore pants and T-shirt yesterday. Today - Sat is going to be clear, sunny and nice. Temps between 68-72. Next Mon and Tues they are forecasting Thunderstorms.

And yes it is very nice to walk to DTD without having to make that stop at the West side and Typhoon Lagoon on your way back home. Those extra stops for some reason drive me crazy.

We are at Congress Park, have a great view of DTD and the walk is literally 5 minutes to Marketplace. We tried the path - if there is one - to West side and that was quite long and confusing because you end up walking on the golf cart paths from the course. Hopefully we weren't going all extra out of the way but that was the only path we could find.

oh, Cobbler, I am so homesick! Isn't the ceramics fun? It is like it's own little town...I just LOVE it!! :goodvibes What section did you get? Oh, I can't wait to hear about your trip home!

1.,2. no, stayed at OKW our first trip as we were scrimping points together for a last minute trip. We really liked OKW, and would stay there in the future.

3. Yes, SSR is our favorite, by far. We haven't stayed everywhere, but we have toured most of them, and we love the peacefulness of SSR. The decor is gorgeous, and to be able to sit outside on the balcony and with a nice glass of wine, and have quiet is priceless to us. Then again, this why some people don't like SSR. Everyone has their different tastes, and likes. AP is wonderful, I would have been disappointed if they put another park burger counter service there. The Turf Club is going to be great, we ate there once and the food was delicious!

4) We hope to spend 75% or greater of our time at SSR. I actually switched our May ressies from BWV back to SSR. yep, BWV owners will be happy to see that! We do like OKW and will stay their some. We sometime want to try VWL, we really like it there also. I am trying BCV in Feb with my mom, as the walking to Epcot (where we will spend almost all of our time) was a nice feature with her. She needs frequent breaks. But SSR is our home, and we are very happy to picture the next 50+ years there!

I have been member since August 2003 and have used my DVC 5 times. Each time I consider booking another resort, but always go back to SSR. As you can tell I love it. It is quite large, but I kind of like that feel. Very open, landscaped beautifully and not cramped feeling. I also love the idea of being close to DTD at night and absolutely love the Fitness Center (state of the art and big).

I honestly think that I will try other resorts, but 80-90% of the time I will be staying at SSR. Why ruin a good thing when your happy based on past experiences. Note: I'm sure they are all great in there own way!

1) Did you stay at SSR on your first DVC trip?
Yes and it was a solo trip for Member Homecoming and the Grand Opening of SSR.
2) If you didn't was this because you couldn't get a room there, or did you prefer to try another resort first?
I wanted to be there for the Grand Opening and it was AWESOME!

3) Is SSR your favourite DVC resort?

I would have to say YES. It's close but when we don't book SSR, I stress more about activities because we are totally unstructured, don't go to the parks every day and just like more "on a whim" type things and SSR is great for that. I like knowing that we can stay late at a park and still go back for a swim without disturbing the whole neighborhood, or we can chill out at Community Hall and spend time with other members if it's raining or catch a movie at DTD or stay late at Disney Quest and walk back to our room.

4) Do you plan to spend at least 50% of your WDW trips at SSR, or a different resort? If most trips at a different resort - please specify?

Yes, I think as the boys get older, we will spend more time at SSR and DTD than we already do. We also enjoy the Waterparks and those are close by also. As DVC we vacation differently than most, so being right outside of a park is only good when you want to visit those parks often. We may visit each park once during a 2-3 week stay but WP's and DQ are almost daily.

We will spend 2 weeks for Christmas/NY at BCV, but if I could switch to SSR without penalty I would. (My waitlist for SSR never came thru).

Next Summer we will stay at BWV (on Standard View points) and then Im sure we will be back to SSR, because we will have stayed at all the onsite DVC's except OKW which we will save for a GV trip.

My Dh and 2 boys, really liked VWL because of the proximity to FW and the activities in that area, but we would only stay there during the winter months.

i have been a member since 2000 i have stayed at 4 resorts bwv/ bcv, vwl, and ssr. they all have their ups and downs. but i stayed at ssr this past summer and i just added on ssr with the great rate. go with ssr 12 more years low maintenance fees.

As a prospective owner I just want to say I'm loving reading all the SSR love on this thread! :grouphug:

1. No, my first DVC trip is in December to VWL.
2. No, because I visited the resorts last Xmas and VWL has a special Xmas feel
3. I haven't stayed at all the resorts so I can't fully compare
4. Yes, I like DTD and I'm not so sure how often I will be able to book VWL at Xmas.

1.YES
2. WE WANTED TO STAY THERE Its our home
3.YES SSR is our favorite
4.We plan to spend all our trips home at SSR :cool1:

1) We haven't yet, but, no, our first reservation is at BCV.

2) We wanted to try BCV because we have always wanted to try Stormalong Bay and thought we'd take advantage of it on a trip during a warm time of year (May). I stayed at the Beach Club in the 8th grade (the year it opened), and my husband has never been. Also, we are bringing the mother-in-law, who is high maintenance, and I think she would enjoy one of the "hotel" resorts more. I was pleasantly surprised to get this reservation at 5 3/4 months without waitlisting.

3) I don't really have a favorite resort since I haven't tried them yet (other than HH). However, I have the feeling BWV is going to be our favorite for sentimental reasons, as we were married on the Boardwalk and spent our honeymoon at BWI.

4) I don't want to spend 50% of our trips at any particular resort, honestly. A large part of the draw of DVC to me was being able to mix it up. We do like SSR and would be happy to stay there sometimes. It's the one I want to try next.

1) VWL is also our first home resort with 150 points. We love it at VWL, but, we also love it at SSR for different reasons....it depends what our plans are for that particular vacation. We added 120 last spring during an incentive promotion at SSR.

2) Our first resort stay was at VWL the year after we bought our points (2001). We have also stayed at BWV and SSR (second trip to SSR on 12/10). At some point I'm sure we'll stay at OKW on site and would like to try VB and HH sometime also. I think the only resort we probably won't stay at is BCV. We just don't care for the layout of BCV or something. It feels way to congested or crowded as to the location. I feel like it's squeezed between Beach Club hotel and Epcot Resort Blvd.

3) As to favorites.......all of them (except BCV!!!). Again, it comes back to what plans are for that vacation and who's going. If it's just DH and myself,I prefer BWV for the location. When the whole family is with us, our grown children just love VWL and would rather stay nowhere else.
However, SSR is nice with a group because it's very easy to get groceries, etc. quickly from vehicles to the units. I'm OKW is nice in that respect also.

4) I think at least for the next few years, SSR will probably get a larger share of our ressies because of the types of vacations we'll be taking.
For instance, mostly the whole family is going 12/10 and it's SSR. However, DH and I plan to visit Food and Wine Festival 10/06 with
friends. I plan to make ressies next week at either SSR or VWL, shortly
after 11 month window. However, because we plan to spend a lot of time at Epcot I may try to change to BWV at 7 month window. If I can get something....fine.....if not, we'll be perfectly happy at either SSR or VWL.

1)YES Had to try our home 1st.We fell in love with it that 1st trip!

3) 4 trips all at SSR in the last 13 months.

4) Will stay at SSR 90%.Feb. 6nts at SSR. We are going to try VB in May for 3nights then back to SSR for 5 more nights. Then 9nts at SSR in Oct.We have found that SSR is really the only place for us.We like to walk over to DTD almost every night if we don't go to one of the parks.Quiet pool is great.
Like to just walk up to play a round of golf.Bus service has been very good.Food very good and will get better.Rooms are great. Like the outside
hallways. Can park your car close to your rm.We see VB as the only other resort we will make use of.

1. Yes!!! We were there for the Grand Opening / Founders Day Celebration of SSR -and- Member Homecoming.

2. N/A

3. Yep, SSR is our favorite DVC Resort. We did know about resales, so we bought into SSR because it suits our tastes and needs.

4. We pretty much plan on staying at SSR for almost every trip; however, we often get a Studio at another DVC resort on our arrival day, as we don't get to WDW until 5PM. We'll sample the other resorts, but SSR is our home!

Thanks for all the positives on SSR. I am hoping to like it, because it would be cheaper to add points there, with the current incentive. So long as I like the theming, I think the spa, golf, pool and walk to Downtown Disney will swing it for me. And I almost always take a car, so parking close to the room will be a huge bonus. :flower:

SSR was an add on for us and we were so excited to go there, having stayed previously at OKW 4 times [and loved it] and BWV
This summer we were at WDW for 6 weeks. in 2BDR ---3 at OKW [Fantastic] 1 at BCV[awesome. like a tiny peace of heaven}] and 2 at SSR-First impressions were dismal. Hated the hallways, the room was dark and dreary. the balcony was tiny [There are 8 of us] and as our place was on a corner the family next to us could see in our bedroom Very very disapointed. Artists Palette-awful. The good points? yes there were some. We loved both the quiet pool at CP{where we stayed] and the main pool was awesome. The kids loved it and it was a very pleasant walk over the bridge. We would definately pool hop but will never stay there again OKW is so much like home for us and BCV is a must I know everyone has different experiences and views and as a rule we adore everything Disney but sorry not SSR Lynda
