Hello!

We receieved a wedding invitation (follow-up to that bridal shower invitation that was so misleading!) in the mail. I know I have come across the "etiquettely correct" answers for these types of things. I am just to exhausted- going on 5 hours sleep here- that I don't want to leaf through pages of the things I'm not looking for on Google. I know you can help!

Two questions:

1) The RSVP card is simply a 5x5 (or thereabouts) card with The Favour Of A Reply Is Requested By The Tenth Of March at the top. We will be attending. What's the etiquettely correct wording to let them know our intentions?

2) Reception is "Black-Tie Preferred" for a four o'clock start wedding, no time is given for the reception start. It's at the Naval Academy Chapel and the reception is at one of the ritzier locations on the Yard. The Chapel in itslef kind of dictates a certain dress- incredibly ginormous and incredibly formal. More of a cathedral than a chapel...

The groom wore a dark suit to our "Black Tie Encouraged." Should we be renting a tuxedo or dry cleaning Brye's dark blue or charcoal suit? It's an April 1st wedding.

Thank you!
xoxo

lol omg why are they being so vague on details. April 1st? hope it's not a april fools joke :)

i think on the RSVP just write both of your names. is there any choices??

Hey Jill,

Okay, so we have only been to a "black tie preferred" a few times, but FDH always insisted on a tux, and never once felt out of place.

As for the second question I was stumped so I searched google, and this is what I found:

A Formal Response

Ms. Shannon Pleasance
accepts with pleasure
your kind invitation
for Sunday, the twentieth of June
Or
regrets that she is unable
to accept

I hope this helps. Get some sleep, girl!

wow some people sure can make things difficult.
Personally i would rent the tux i dont think he would look out of place!

lol and get some sleep!

I don't think it is, but I can't help but wonder! I recently saw a thing about a couple who had an April Fool's Day wedding and it really was a joke...

The Chapel at the Academy is incredibly difficult to get into and there's a lot of protocol that goes into being married there- must enter a Covenant marriage, no secular music, specific time constraints, first marriage, etc. I have a feeling April 1st was one of the only days open this spring. They were only engaged in August, which means they didn't have much time to get into the Chapel if they wanted a spring wedding as it's usually booked up 18 months in advance.

Just to give you an idea-

Edit: Anything you see in that movie Annapolis is just about totally wrong! Few things were right- uniforms, there is a Brigade boxing match, and people do jump from Bancroft, but beyond that... it's Hollywood!

How funny...we're thinking of an April 1, 2007 wedding and I was a bit worried that people might think the invitation is a joke! :rotfl:

wow that some spectular place to get married. I would just wear what they wanted then, a dark suit or tux with a tie. to play it safe, wear whatever the guests wore in that movie ;)

Wow! That is a goregous place!

My best friend just attended a "black tie preferred" 4:00 pm wedding and her BF wore a dark suit and tie and she wore an ankle length spaghetti strap dress. I don't think your DH would be out of place in a tux if you can rent one.

Have fun, that looks like an amazing place to have a wedding :goodvibes

Haha! And Brye's exact words about getting married there (I tried!): "I am not starting the rest of my life at THAT chapel. They already took four years of my life." :rotfl2:

:scratchin He just really didn't want to get married in uniform...
