Questions about vow renewal

Hi everyone. My DH and I are hoping to do a vow renewal at Disney in 2012 on what will be our 10 year wedding anniversary. We didn't have a real wedding when we first got married (lack of funds), so we'd like to do something nicer for our 10th. How far in advance should I start planning this, and about how much should I try to save for it? I love the planning part of things, so starting early doesn't bother me any . We will probably only have close family and our children (we have two girls right now but hope to have at least 1 more by then). I don't want anything extravagant, just something nice to commemorate a special event......the one thing I really want is good pictures because the pictures we have from the day we got married are AWFUL!

You can start planning as soon as you like, but the earliest Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings will let you do anything is 18 months for a site visit. Contracts and locations and all that happen 8-12 months out. But that's OK, because you have all kinds of time to figure out what kind of wedding you want.

Right now, an Escape wedding starts at $4,000. It's a package for up to 20 people (including you and DH and any kids) that includes the site, the cake, photography, Champagne, flowers and a violinist, but no reception. People usually book a nice meal at a nearby restaurant afterward.

The minimum cost of a Wishes wedding (i.e. a completely customizable ceremony and reception) is $10,000.

Lurkyloo~Thanks! I think that an Escape wedding will work for us (I sure don't intend to have more than 20 people), so, at least for now, I'll set my minimum savings goal at $5,000. However, since our October trip is going to cost more than that, I better have some extra ready to go

Just wanted to say welcome to another VR We are planning a VR for our 20th anniversary in 2010 at wdw. Have fun palnning. there are alot of wonderful ideas and helpful brides here. Good luck with your plans....

Hi to the other future-VRs!!! I am hopeful that my DH and I will be able to swing a Disney VR also. We already had our 10th (I opted for jewelry instead ), so I guess we may plan for our 15th (2011). I would love for family and close friends to come, but I don't think many of them will for cost reasons. We can't afford to put everyone up, and a lot of our family will think it's a ridiculous extravagence to have a VR at Disney. But it is something that I dream of doing, so I hope to have at least a few guests show up!

I REALLY want the wedding pavilion at GF. Does anyone know if this is an option as a site for the cheaper wedding pkg?

The wedding pavilion is available for the Escape package, but it costs more than the other locations.

I am glad to hear that the wedding pavilion is available, because it will probably be my first choice too. Even if it is a little higher cost, I think it's beautiful and would be worth it. I am going to start saving now so that hopefully I can get enough together.

Congrats on planning your V.R.! Ours is coming up in a few weeks and it's been really fun to plan. It's especially nice since doing this means a vacation as well as a V.R.

The WP costs $1000 more than the other sites, which is why we decided against it and take our chances with the rain. We put that money toward a private room at the California Grill which has a $2000 minimum, but I thought it would be great to end our night with watching fireworks from there.

You'll get so many great ideas from Disboards. I've made Mickey-head fan programs from the tips I've gotten here. As well as had SO many of my questions answered from brides who've BTDT, and still come back to the boards to help other Disney brides.

Hi!! Another VR'er here! We are doing ours in 12/09 on DCL. We originally wanted to do an Escape at Sunrise Terrace at Wilderness Lodge, but decided the cruise option was better for us, and a bit cheaper too.

To be honest, I'm not really familiar with the other locations. I know DH would love the Wilderness Lodge, and I've always wanted to stay at the Beach Club (I know there's a location at the Yacht Club). I've been to Disney World in May before, and the weather was gorgeous, so I don't think that would be too much of a concern.

We, too, celebrated our tenth anniversary with a FTW VR. All told, between the vacation for all 6 of us and the VR, it was about $11K. It would have been more, but we dropped the MK Photo Shoot at the last minute because of the dreaded crane over the castle that day. Turned out to be a good thing, it is visible in our WP photos. This was also during the free Dining promotion, so I would plan a little more, just in case. We were there for 14 days, IIRC. We also had two rooms for three days, so that DH and I could be alone for a few nights.
