Hi! Hopefully someone will have the answer to my question.

My dad (the owner of our DVC contact) forgot to bank some of our points this month, so now they will "expire" in April 2016.

Assuming that we call DVC and they will not let us bank the points late, does this mean that we will have to use all the remaining points AND go on our vacation BEFORE April 2016

OR

Does this mean that as long as we BOOK a vacation before April 2016, and do not travel until AFTER April 2016, we will be alright?

Im guessing it's probably the first option but I thought I would just ask anyways :)

Points are allocated when you make a reservation and redeemed when you actually stay. Points must be valid for the stay. So, yes, it's the first one; you must travel before they expire.

FYI - the late banking forgiveness if granted is reportedly a once in a lifetime exception. Make sure that you need to use it.

Have you thought about renting a reservation to use them up.

If you have enough points, maybe book an RCI exchange, then you can travel after April 2016 but still use the points.

That is my concern as well. Assuming the OP's dad's banking deadline was Nov 30, any idea if they would grant an exception without using the "super secret once in a lifetime" exception since they are just a week late?

It's all up to the CM at MS, each seems to do their own thing. That's why if at first you don't succeed, try, try, again.

You have nothing to lose by calling and asking... I would definitely mention Dad messed up, I'm trying to help him, I've got it in my Google calendar now, it will never happen again, etc. ... I can't believe they have a flag on your account that would show you received this "once in a lifetime" exemption. Just don't do it again next year! Then when you're Dad's age, someone can call for you.

That all said, it didn't work for me when Mom forgot to pay her Property taxes one year in California. She had to pay the penalty..
