I am in the process of buying 200 points at SSR. This is my first DVC purchase. If I understand correctly, I will get 200 points December 1, 2003 but can't use them until after May1, 2004 when the first building is complete. The problem is I wanted to use the points to stay at BCV in March. What's my best course of action - to try to trade the points or to trade reservations at SSR for BCV or to pay cash to stay at BCV? If I pay cash, what kind of discount do I get for being a DVC member? And do I get the same discount for any Disney hotel? Is the discount off the rack rate and therefore not a very good deal? (We're Florida residents and can get pretty good Florida resident rates.) This is all new to me.

You won't be able to use the SSR points for a resevration prior to May 1, 2004. You can choose the "Developer Points" option instead of the $10 discount. Those points could be used at BCV (assuming availability) in April. You should do the math and see which method will get you the best deal.

The DVC member discount is 25%, but only at DVC resorts and only when available. Since the discounted rate comes from member inventory of rooms, it is available only when the rooms aill not be needed for point reservations.

You can try to find another member to "switch" points or reservations with you or pay cash. (There is no DVC discount on other WDW resorts.)

Good Luck ...

...and WELCOME HOME!!
