You can book it 60 days in advance or within your 60+10 window if you're staying onsite. Some have reported being able to book at midnight. I tried at midnight at 60+10 days before my May trip and wasn't able to book it. I tried again at 5:30 am as I was waiting for the dining ADRs to open and was able to book it. You don't have to have already purchased park tickets but be sure you do purchase them soon so that you can book a park reservation. You don't need either to book the tour but you do need both to take the tour. We loved it! Enjoy!
There's a lot of presentation time on the tour that they may not quite follow but I'm sure they'd love petting the rhino. We took our twenty something sons and we all loved it.
I took my niece when she was 7. She was a little disappointed that she only got to interact with Dugan for a minute or 2 - she thought it was gonna be like the petting zoo at home But she did enjoy it and told her friends it was fun.

When we went in May we only got a minute or two as well to pet the rhino. The rest was informational but we enjoyed it since we were all adults. Wish they would let you have a picture as you pet the rhino though but I understand it's "backstage" so they can't...
The rhino tour is wonderful and so is the elephant tour. I've done both and in fact have done the elephant tour twice. I highly recommend both to any animal lover.
I think the Rhino tour is only offered once a day, but everyday. It is a great tour. We got to pet Dugan too, I was pretty excited for it and I wish we could have had a picture. But it is something I will remember forever though.

Here to report that at my 60 day mark (10/9/22) I was able to book both Caring for Giants and Savor the Savanna at midnight EST for days 60+. Up Close w/ Rhinos is not showing availability beyond exactly 60 days--even at 6am EST.

Can you describe the elephant tour as compared to the rhino one? We've done Up Close with Rhinos but were less drawn to the elephant tour because it didn't seem like you were, in fact, very close. What makes it cool? Thanks.
