Not sure this is in the correct place but:I'm intrested in renting points but am aprehensive because I have never done it before. I have read the stickies and understand how the transaction works but there are so many what if's?
I have a dvc book(we went on a tour last yr) and if I'm understanding it correctly I need 139 point to stay the the AK in a value room. If I can get the points for 10$ a point it would cost 1390$ that is paid to the member and then they call MS and book the dates for you under your name. Are there contract that you sigh before you send the money? What if you send the money and the reservations never get made? Can you call MS yourself and confirm. Any advise
TIA

MS won't talk to anyone but members these days.

some members would do it the way you described.

some of us - make the reservation then send the reservation confirmation with the contract for you to sign and send back.

just depends upon which member you choose.

be sure to pick someone who owns AKV. unless your trip is less than 7 months out - then any member can do it.

AKV is still new. the value villa are much smaller than the standard view studios. that is why the value villa are cheaper. So both of these it might be hard to get. So again you need someone with AKV points.

the DVC member controls the reservation until the moment you check in. if the reservation isn't under your member number, MS will not speak with you. renting is a private transaction between individuals...if things go wrong, you have the option of normal legal recourse, but disney will not get involved.

most of the time things work out fine, but you have to accept a certain loss of control to be willing to rent.

Yes, that's how it works. You find a DVC member who has points, they make the reservation for you and then you pay them. I wouldn't count on getting your points for only $10, though. Prices are up and you may have to pay $11 or $12 per point for an experienced DVC member.

Some DVC members have contracts. Some do not. There have been one or two cases of members taking the money and not making the reservation. Many, many, many more transactions have gone without a hitch. You cannot call MS itself to check on your reservation, but you can arrange a 3-way call if the member is up for it. Be aware that even after the call the member has FULL control over your reservation and can cancel it at any time.

DVC Mike has some good suggestions here:

I have seen AKV points for $13-17.00 per point. This is the newest of the DVC resorts, so far the most expensive resort to own. Prices are up. Someone posted on the rent/trade board last month... a 45 point value reservation for $750.00 and they rented it. They added a line to their post that they did indeed rent it.

Of course, I think that is still cheaper than renting for CRO.
