Questions about OOP at restaurants

My DS soon to be 10 is a very small eater. He does not even eat as much as his brother who is 5. Next trip we are paying OOP for our meals. Before I ask my question and get flamed, I am NOT asking about going around Disney's rules or breaking them at all.

Is there an option at Disney to have an adult eat from the child's menu by just paying more for it? I don't want to pass him off as a child (even though he will make 10 the WEEK before we go...ugh!!) and I'm not asking to but I know that he can not physically eat an adult meal and by preference he would rather mac and cheese anyways.

Suggestions on what to do with him at restaurants??? THANKS!

Because you will be paying OOP, he can still order off the kids menu. Last trip we did not do DP because my 12 year old ate like bird (still does at 14). She ordered off the kids menu the entire trip. I have also been known to occasionally order off the kids menu at table service restaurants (not buffet obviously) and have never been refused.

I order kid meals for CS occassionally and it is never a problem (haven't done this for TS.) Could you have the 5 year old order an adult entree and have the 10 year old order the kid meal?

Enjoy your trip!

At Disney everyone is a kid. Anyone can order from the Children's menu. Judy was a light eater, and any time we went to the Concourse Steakhouse she would order the child's (4oz) filet dinner and get drink and dessert included. And she was in her 50's.

Wow I never knew that an adult could order off of the childrens menu :thumbsup2 I wish I knew that the passed few years, I can rarely ever finish an adult meal at WDW

These answers have helped me tremendously!!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all of the answers! He will just eat from the children's menu again. ;)

Yup- my 38 yr old picky eater friend - is going in December and she too will be eating off the children's menu in several situations.

This is apparently not true in all situations at all restaurants. There are reports that the Plaza restaurant will not allow anyone over 9 to order from the child's menu. There are some other random reports, usually from restaurants not operated by Disney, where the request has been denied. So the actual answer appears to be, most of the time, yes, although it's possible you may be told "no" depending on where you are and who you ask.

This refers to a la carte restaurants only. At fixed price restaurants everyone age 10 and over pays the adult price, regardless of how much or how little they plan to eat.

I remember ordering hot dogs off the kid's menu at SciFi, when I was in my 30's. They were very accomodating. Mind you, this was about 13 years ago...lol. It has been my experience that the folks at WDW go the extra mile for their guests, especially for those who are friendly and polite.
