Questions about new ticket pricing

Two questions about the new ticket pricing that was announced yesterday.

1. I just bought 5-day hoppers with two plusses from Ticket Mania for our trip in May. These plusses do not include Disney Quest. The info on Mousesavers.com says that DQ is included in the plusses on the new tickets. Is this true? Can anyone confirm that DQ is definitely included in these new plus options?

2. If this is true, then the new 5-day ticket with hopper and plus options would be a better deal than I have now. Does anyone know if I can upgrade these tickets I now hold to the new tickets by paying the difference?

I realize this ticket thing is new, and there might not be anyone that knows the answers, but thought I would try anyway.

Thanks, Tromba

It has been said that you can upgrade by going to guest services when you get there.

The press releases make it pretty clear that DQ will be included as a plus feature on the new MYW tickets. Here is a link to read it for yourself:

http://www.allearsnet.com/news/hnews.htm

I'm guessing that you paid $270 (tax included) for your adult 5-day PHPs. The new 5-day passes (according to allearsnet.com) with the plus-pack and park hopping carry an advance purchase price of $283 (I have added 6.5% Fl sales tax to the info. on the website). You are correct, this extra $13 would not only get you into DQ but would also give you an extra plus feature. However, the other difference is that the passes you just purchased never expire whereas the price I quoted above does not include the price of the no expiration option.

Yeh, there are lots of things to consider with these new tickets. The mousesavers.com site is saying that if you want to upgrade, Disney will credit you for the RETAIL value of your tickets, no matter if you bought them at a discount! If this is true, then the deal is even sweeter. I would pay only an extra $7 for the upgrade. However, another thing the site is saying is that the way to upgrade is to exchange your tickets at Guest Services upon arrival. Does this mean I would have to exchange for the new tickets at GATE prices, and then they would only give me credit for advanced purchase prices?

In fact, the differences in the new tickets prices between 5, 6 and 7 day passes are so minimal that it might be better to purchase a 7-day pass without the hopper option. Since we will be camping on property 11 nights at Fort Wilderness anyway, we wouldn't really need the hopper option in order to see everything. We could just pay the extra three bucks to get the 7-day pass, and then why would we want to hop?

Yes, lots of things to think about now. And still lots of questions to be answered that really can't be answered right now. I just called up Disney, and the ticket agent said they don't know any more about the tickets than the info that is posted on the internet. And she said they won't know anything more until Jan. 2!

How about that?

All ticket upgrades and dollar credits using old tickets no matter where the tickets were originally purchased from are currently done using gate prices to charge for the new ticket. This will not be changing. So the answer to your questions is yes, that's what it means.

OK, I understand that for the upgrade to the new ticket I would be charged gate prices. But how would they credit me for my old ticket? Gate or advanced purchase? How would they know if I purchased the ticket in advance? Is there something imbedded in the bar code that would tell them?

I want to know this info, too. We already bought our tickets and are planning on upgrading. We'll arrive at WDW on Jan 3, so I'm sure we're going to be the CM "guinea pigs" for figuring out how this upgrading is going to work. I just hope the CM's know all about the upgrading then.

Heck, I had all of our vacation planned. Now it's back to square one with the park itinerary planning. OK, it's "kinda" fun to plan everything over...heehee. I hope I don't have trouble with new PS's!!

Very tough question. You'll just have to ask at the moment of trade in how much the old ticket is worth, and then decide on the spot whether to trade in, keep the old ticket and pay all cash (or credit card), or step out of line and think for a few minutes.

All tickets have a trade in value encoded somwhere. There are various promo9tiional tickets, for example from Alamo Rent a Car or time share condo's that have a relatively small trade in value despite a larger customer purchase price.

Turn your ticket over. There's a dollar amount listed near the bottom, something like "Valued at 259.00 plus tax". If Disney does what Mousesavers says they will do on these upgrades, then the price you see there is what you'll be credited for an unused ticket. They are supposed to be crediting retail price (as printed on your ticket) rather than wholesale price which is what you may have actually paid for it. That info is also encoded onto the magnetic strip. It will more than likely be an advance price you'll be credited for the old ticket and a gate price you'll be charged for the new ticket.

If you just go to Guest Services and hand them the ticket, how will they know where you bought it? I suppose it could be coded in some how. If you wait until after the first of the year, I'm sure others will be able to fill you in.

They won't know exactly where you bought it but they sure will know it wasn't Disney. The exact dollar value of every ticket whether sold by Disney or anyone else is encoded onto the magnetic strip. If it came from a wholesaler, it will display the wholesale price of the ticket to the GR CM which is very different than the price that tickets sold directly by Disney have.
