Questions about Mickey's Backyard BBQ

We're thinking about doing one of the Ft. Wilderness dinner shows on our December 2012 trip but Hoop De Do will unfortunately be closed then.

We have two kids, who will be 2 and 8 (going on 3 and 9) when we take the trip.

Would you recommend Mickey's Backyard BBQ in our situation?

From an adult's perspective on food, I'm not expecting the quality to knock my socks off, but is it at least edible? (I've read a lot of complaints on Allears that the food was cold, while at the same time, being overcooked and dry).

Also, I've noticed when playing around with the on-line booking system that the 5 pm seating time never seems to be available. Is this due to popularity of that time slot or is it an issue with the on-line booking system?

Finally, I've heard that they sometimes cancel this due to weather (one of the reasons we would have preferred the Hoop De Do). What happens if your scheduled seating gets canceled at the last minute?

This is DD favorite. She is 8 now and it is her must-do this year. We all like it. I have never had an issue with the food. I noticed that the website lists multiple times, but it is only one time: 6:30-9:30.

The food is fair. Not nasty, but nothing special. Typical picnic stuff, burgers, dogs, slaw, etc.

You need to be somewhat pushy to get to the characters, but when you do the interaction is great. It was the 1st time my younger daughter would even get near a character, and she danced with Minnie.

We've done it and enjoyed it. My kids were 4 and 8 then. As pp said food is edible but nothing special. We enjoyed line dancing with the characters! I believe if it is cancelled you are just without a reservation for that night. We were worried about that also but had no issues. In my opinion, give it a shot. If you don't like it chalk it up to experience but I do think the kids will enjoy it!!

Thanks for the great information, I have been kind of thinking about booking this for our next trip however I have a few questions too (sorry OP for hijacking your thread ).

-My kids will be 11 and 9 when we go, will it be worth it for their age group or is it more for the younger set?

-My kids are not the type of kids to push others away just so they can get up close and personal with the characters, will they still have fun even though they may not get to interact with them?

-We will be on the DxDP, I am assuming this is a 2 credit dining experience right?

- We are going the end of August/beginning of September and I know the weather is so unpredictable that time of year (as far as rain is concerned), do you think we should skip it this trip and wait for our June 2013 trip instead (kids will be 12 and 10 when we go)?
