Questions about Matterhorn

I guess today is my day for being curious. When the PP asked about the 42 inch being official I did a search a few hours ago for Matterhorn key words on the Disney Parks blog and could not find any mention of the 42 inch requirement in any of the blogs in 2012. I also checked the Matterhorn attraction page and it still says 35 inches.

Maybe I missed it when I looked earlier today. Do you remember which blog item it was mentioned?

I only rememeber seeing 42 inches in Al Lutz's articles.

:wizard:

I searched thru the archives today too and could not find anything on there including any comments from a PR person. The only places I have seen it are on the Lutz article(also states there will be locking lap bars which very well MAY NOT be true). This leads me to believe(maybe hope is the word) that the change in height requirement JUST MIGHT also be false. :scratchin

Maybe you will be able to sit in the seat behind your grandson and hold onto his shoulders to make you both feel a little safer. I know I felt better with my daughters first ride on the Matterhorn because I could snuggle her so tight.

Today's MP Weekly Update says that the new bobsleds have lap bars.

A couple of years ago the MP Weekly Update said that the new bobsleds would have seatbelts (link), so even the same source has been giving conflicting information.

Today's MP Weekly Update is not an "official" source, but it certainly shows that there's conflicting information out there about seat belts vs. lapbars.

Thank you for including the link. It helps when there are so many speculations out there, so we can see where the information really is coming from rather than general claims. :)

In the picture above (and a couple others I noticed), you can make out the yellow strap they have on seat belt rides like Indy and Soarin. The one you have to tug on while the CM assures everyones buckled.

In that picture, I can see where the "yellow tab" could actually be a lap bar. I zoomed in a bit, and it looks like it might be a black bar with a yellow line in the middle. Not saying it is, just saying I see potential for it to be either.

That picture, to me, looks like a pelvic bar (smaller than a lapbar and is T shaped- don't know the correct name for it!) and it looks like the yellow pull tab is on it.
That's just my eyes, though.

I think it looks just like the old belt-and-hook restraint method... :rolleyes1

There seems to be a general consensus that the new bobsleds will have seat belts, similar to the ones on Soarin', Tower of Terror, Indiana Jones, and Jumpin' Jellyfish.

In the photo of the bobsled below there are clearly no lap bars:

After a careful consideration of all the non-facts, I am able to make this :wizard:definitive prediction: :wizard:

The first person to get sick after riding in the new Matterhorn bobsleds will either be male or female.

Brilliant!

I didn't make a definitive statement about seat belts. ;) Notice that I didn't comment about the reported changes to the height requirement. ;)

Al Lutz (link) reported "locking lap bars" and a new height requirement. MP's weekly update (link) reported "lap bars."

There's a thread about this at MC (link).

Here are a couple of the comments from that thread:

"Princess Victoria" commented: "They are most definitely, positively, and certainly seatbelts. I know this as I had a hand in their development."

"serviceelevator" commented: "Belts not Lapbars.. I've had the opportunity to view the sleds up close."

The above comments aren't definitive, but they line up with the photos of the new bobsleds. The photos of the new bobsleds do not show "lap bars."

Are you implying that Hal Nutz could be wrong?

Repent! :hourglass The End is near! :hourglass
