We are going to be staying at the Poly for 5 nights at the end of Sept. We have never stayed at the Poly before. We are staying in a garden view room. My question is how much should we leave the maids for a tip and do they do anything "extra" special if you leave more. I heard about the maids not only leaving elaborate towel animals, but leaving Disney beanies and small trinkets behind when you tip them good. Could anyone share their experiences. I've heard that the Poly maids treat you more special than at any other resort. Thanks for the help!

Stayed there twice, never gotten anything special. Although I also don't pay to recieve extra things. I figure if they want to leave something fine, but all I expect is a clean room , which is their job. This time they did leave extra shampoos and lotion.

I've never heard of housekeepers leaving beanies and trinkets. Maybe you are confusing some reent posts about people having concierge staff leave beanies and things in their rooms. Those things weren't free, they were charged to the guests account!

Mousekeepers are not concierge. They are housekeepers. It is not their job to do anything other than leave the room clean. Not all know how to make towel animals, and not all have the time to do so either.

I leave a tip for a job well done, and expect noghting more than a clean room for it.

I think in all my WDW stays I've ONCE gotten a towel animal, at the AKL.

Thanks for the help, but I still need to know how much is the normal tip. I read it is 1.00 for the All stars, but it must be more for a deluxe resort.

The amount of tip is up to each individual. Official WDW policy is that housekeeping is not a tipped postion, therefore it is not expected.

Hi! We stayed at Poly in Jan 03 and although we never did get a towel animal, we had a wonderful and honest maid. I wish I could remember her name, but alas, it slips my mind!:(

Anyway, I usually tip $5 per day for our family of 4, sometimes $10 if we are extra messy or if the maid gives us extra special treatment. One day, on our last trip, we were hurrying around to get out the door to the parks and I was switching money from the safe to my fanny pack. It was chilly, so I was packing extra sweatshirts as well. So what do I do but leave two $50 bills on the bed without realizing it and left. When I returned to the room, I was SHOCKED to find the money on the night stand, especially when I didn't even know I left it out! I called housekeeping and made certain which maid serviced our room that day. I made it a point to find her, thank her in person, and give her an additional $20 tip. She was so polite about it and just said that she thought for certain that I left it out accidently. If she were not as honest, she could have just said that she thought it was a tip and kept it.

I never really cared if I got any towel animals, and we have had some maids (maid is easier to type than housekeeper so sorry if I'm not PC here) do some creative setups with our beanie babies. But I must say that this honesty was much more important to me than any of the other stuff.

Unless we're given super fantastic mousekeeping service, we plan to do $3/day for 2 people.

I haven't heard of them leaving beanies and trinkets.... although I have heard if you already have stuffed animals and toys in the room they will occasionally set them up in a cute way.

If it's just DH and I, I leave $3-4 in the morning and $2 in the eveining for turndown service.

When DS is also with us I leave $5 in the morning and $2 in the evening for turn-down service.
