Questions about longer stays

I am looking at purchasing a resale contract, but I do have a question. We will only be traveling to Disney every other year, so we like to stay longer than 7 days.

How do you do a ressie longer than 7 days? If I wanted to stay 10 days, would I book the first 7 at the exact 11 month mark and add a day to that ressie each morning until I get to 10? Or do I wait until 11 months -3 days and book all 10 days? Do I run a risk of not getting my desired room type if I do the latter?

I would book the reservation on the first day you are able, only getting the first 7 days. Then call back each day and keep adding on days until you get your desired length. Waiting until 11 months - 3 days might mean a hard to get reservation is no longer available.

At 11 months, you don't have to call in each day. You can wait up to 6 days before you call in to add the rest. Once you have the room locked up at 11 months, you can't lose it.

I've never told them that and we stay longer than 7 nights every time we go. Is there a reason to do that?

They will mark your reservation to 'expect' addition nights to be added. Let's them know to hold off closing the reservation, more to come.

We usually just book a split stay if we stay longer than 7 nights. Never had an issue doing this.

We usually stay 16-18 nights and we always book split stays. We tend to do 5 or 4 nights at various resorts. We book it so we can do the parks and the dining we want to do on foot so we can have a bottle of wine with dinner.

Our upcoming trip is 16 nights and we are doing 5 nights SSR, 4 nights Kidani, 3 nights universal and 4 nights VGF

For most rooms you can just call once at 10 1/2 months and book two weeks.

For rooms that are in high demand during high demand times of the year, you should call twice.

If your home resort is SSR, there shouldn't be any reason to call twice ever. If your home resort is BLT and you want a standard view studio, you should probably always call twice

If you hold the 11-month day, nobody can take that room out of inventory for the next day. You can only book days beyond 11 months if you hold the first day. With the possible exception of fixed-week owners, there's no way to get blocked out of a room if you hold that date.

Using today as an example, and using AKV club level, since there are only five rooms, if you have 1/21-1/27 booked, nobody can book that same room for 1/28. Anyone who's booking today on 1/23 can book 1/23-1/30, but that would have to be a different room, because they can't book 1/28 without it also being available today.

Fixed week owners and probably Disney pulling rooms out of service before the eleven month window. For certain room types they book so quickly that if Disney wants to do regular maintenance, they need to plan before the window opens. I suspect that's the situation with the VAKL Club and Value rooms where members run into 11 month walking problems.
