Questions about Jedi Training

I believe I read that the Jedi Training Academy is something that kids ages 5-12 can sign up for. I have a 13yr. old and a 4yr. old, is there any way they would be allowed to do it as well? Also, do you have to get there right away in the morning in order to get signed up?

Actually, it's 4-12; I don't know if they'd allow the 13 year-old. But yes, you do need to sign up first thing in the morning.

Although I can't say for sure, my first instinct is that they would not allow the 13 year old to participate. There are a lot of kids that get turned away each morning because all the shows have booked up. If the wrong parent overheard the CM making an exception for your son, they could make a big fuss. But, it still doesn't hurt to ask, just in case. I'd just make sure you really prepare your 13 old, so he's not too disappointed if they say no. Good luck!

If they made an exception for one kid, they'd have to make an exception for every kid. I wouldn't even put him through thinking he MIGHT get to participate and then having to be disappointed at the park. He's old enough to understand that it's only for kids 4-12. You can plan another special event/meal just for him instead.

If it helps - I have three boys, the oldest of which is 13. We have found that the boys are over Jedi Training by the time they are about 9. Most of the kids on stage (in our experience) seem to be between 4 and 8. It's really targeted at young kids, not teens and tweens. So your 13 year old may find he's not interested anyway.

Due to his age he will not be able to participate. My son first did it when he was 10. During this trip he is 12 and has no desire.

Um, thanks. We've never been before, so its all new to us...

It's not a big deal but, Disney does have to adhere to their age policies for various reasons. I don't think you would "adjust" your son's age but you could play up the experience this way. The 13 year old could be the Jedi Leader and take the 4 year old all the way through the process. Once on stage, the four year old could defeat the bad guys to appease the 13 year old. That way, both could be part of the entire process.

To add - the four year old will have to go and attend a short pre-session thing before the "fighting". Have your 13 year old stay with the four year old. It can be a total family time.

How difficult is it to find the sign-up location when you first enter HS?

My tentative plan for the family trip in November is to go straight to the sign-up area as soon as we enter the park, then start actually touring after that. My concern, though, is that we're going to be wondering around trying to find this spot that everybody else seems to be able to find except us.
