Questions about GF Lodge Concierge Rooms

Hi everyone,

We are staying in Sugar Loaf in December. We just returned from a WL trip Sun. While there I asked if I could look around Sugar Loaf a little just to get an idea of what to expect. They said yes. I was there after the wine and cheese serving. Somewhere around 8:00 pm. They did have out some sweets. They had cup cakes and cookies. Nothing as expansive as what I've heard the RPC has though. There was also coffee and some other cold drinks. I think it was water and maybe lemonade. I may be wrong on the lemonade though, can't remember for sure.

Anyway, I thought I would mention the limited desserts. I know in the past I have heard that they do not have anything like that out. Maybe that is something knew.

Minnie,

Do you know for sure that they had served wine and cheese at Sugar Loaf? This is one of the reasons that they were considered "limited" was the lack of alchohol.

They did serve cupcakes and some delicious frosted brownies when we were there. I thought I remembered them being cleaned up at about 7pm, so it's nice to hear that this may now be extended. Drinks are usually left available all day, with your choices of hot water for tea & cocoa, coffee (with flavored syrups), lemonade, iced tea and bottled mineral water. You can serve yourself in a glass or a to-go cup.

they still do not serve alcohol because the building does not have an alcohol permit.

We have stayed in Sugar Loaf and really liked it. We found the location to be perfect, very centrally located to everything on property.

As to view, we don't sit on our balcony alot and our view was very nice as we faced the pool. We enjoy watching the fireworks and water parade from the many locations on property more than in our room. We have had a lagoon view of the castle before and found we like Sugar Loaf better.

While they don't offer the late dessert serving, desserts are offered during the late afternoon including chocolate covered strawberries. So except for the time difference and the cordials( which we don't like) we did not find the offerings lacking in anything.

The staff was very friendly and offered any assistance we needed.

Hi Tammi,

I just called it the wine and cheese serving because that is what I'm used to in the other concierge buildings at Disney. They still didn't have the wine out. I'm so used to calling the evening appetizers that, I didn't think about it when posting. I'm sorry for the confusion. They did have out the sweets until at least 8:00 though. Anyway, I just thought I would clear up the confusion.
I'm sorry about that.

our first stay at the GF was in the sugarloaf concierge...
our second, this past summer, was at the RPC, in a room with a magnificent view of the castle.....truly truly magical...

sugarloaf was nice (the CMs were wonderful and the location near the main building was convenient), but i would never ever ever ever stay at the GF again unless i was in the RPC.....it was spectacular....the CMs were wonderful....the service was beyond superb....i love being in the main building....and the view...well...who can argue with going out on your balcony and watching wishes....

by the way, we requested a specific set of rooms (we gave them the room numbers of rooms that we know have a castle view) and they gave us our request.....of course there are no guarantees, but they do try to meet your request if they can....
we specified the room numbers to both central reservations and to the IPO (itinerary planning office)....

I LOVE THE GF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disneyholicfamily...if you don't mind, which rooms did you request? I'm staying in the main building with friends in January and would love a great view with a balcony. I'd appreciate it if you know which rooms to request! Thanks!:wave2:

Also, should I make that request directly to the concierge staff (and note it on our ressie?) Edited: I see you requested to central reservations and the staff--didn't read through it clearly!

We also have done both and I really do love RPC also. It's definitely personal choice though as I've heard many who love the homey feel of Sugar Loaf.

As to the room numbers with the MK view, they are located on either the 3rd or 4th floor. On the 4th floor, you don't have any rooms above you, which is nice. It's almost like you are down your own private wing of the resort. Very quiet and very little hallway traffic. Of course, it is the furthest walk to the lounge and main elevators, but it's really not that far. There is also an elevator located in that area that will bring you down right next door to Gasparillas. Very convenient for those late night snack attacks. Recommended room numbers for an MK view would be 4301-4310 or 4401-4410. We had 4404 which contained 2 queen beds and a daybed.

yes it is a very far walk to get back to the main elevator and the lounge, but who cares....
and as Tammi wrote, it's close to the back elevator that takes you down to gasparillo's and the pool (we went to gasparillo's quite a lot)....

as for the rooms, they're the numbers that Tammi gave, however, i thought that it was only 4301 to 4309 and 4401 to 4409...
i didn't know that "10" was also one of the good rooms...

of those, i'd avoid 4301 as there is a huge palm tree that blocks the view of the castle when you're looking from the room (but you do see it if you go out on the balcony, or stand to the side of your room....so if that's the one you get i wouldn't be terribly upset over it)..

by the way, there is a book that lists all the preferred rooms in every resort....it's called "the unofficial guide to walt disney world"....that's the one i use when i request specific rooms...

Beth, I totally agree about the extra walk. It was so worth it to have that amazing view. The back elevator was great. We used that more than the main elevators.

Thanks for the tip about the Unofficial Guide. I'm definitely going to look into that one.

For what it's worth, we stayed several years ago in one of the octagon rooms in the main building -- on the 5th floor looking right at the castle -- and we too kind of thought after that we really shouldn't go back to the GF because it would never be that cool again.

We finally relented -- just couldn't justify the cost this time -- and got a standard room when BAT codes came out; ended up with an upgrade to a lagoon view in boca chica. That was pretty great too. In fact, there was stuff about it we actually liked better than the main building, not to mention that it was 1/3 of the price. (Didn't much care for walking past the main building and seeing the lights on in "our" room, though!)

Just saying, even if you're addicted to RPC and think it's the only way to go, don't necessarily give up on the rest of the GF just because you can't afford or book RPC on a particular occasion.
