Hi there-

I have booked my family (myself, DH and DD8) for 8 nights at the FW cabins for next May. :goodvibes Waiting for the packages, but did a RO for the time being. We have never stayed at FW and I have a few questions.

Are the cabins "rustic" like damp, musty etc or are they more like the regular hotels rooms? We have stayed at cabins before at other campsites/vacations and they always seem to be musty/damp. Just so I can be prepared.

Is there a slide at the pool? I didn't see one in any of the pics I saw, not that this is a deal breaker, but DD does like her slides.

If you rent a golf cart, can you park it by the marina when you take the boat to MK and leave it there for the day?

How much is the horseback riding? And do I have to go with DD? She will be 9.5 yo when we go, so she meets the age requirement, just didn't know if I had to accompany her.

Thanks for any and all information you can give us; we are really looking forward to this trip and enjoying some of the amenities at FW. DD does not yet know about the horseback riding, that will be a surprise she will enjoy. Plus Chip and Dale are her faves, so campfires with them will be bonus. :thumbsup2

Thanks again!!

We just went in May, and had such a great time at the cabins that we're going back over Thanksgiving and taking even more family with us this time (staying in 2 cabins together). I can try to answer most of your questions:

Are the cabins "rustic" like damp, musty etc or are they more like the regular hotels rooms? We have stayed at cabins before at other campsites/vacations and they always seem to be musty/damp. Just so I can be prepared. No, the cabin was not rustic like that at all. It was just like a regular room to us, but just much bigger, and with a full kitchen. I have read that some people thought they were dusty but we didn't have any trouble like that whatsoever. Also, housekeeping was great the whole time we were there.

Is there a slide at the pool? I didn't see one in any of the pics I saw, not that this is a deal breaker, but DD does like her slides. Nope, no slide at the pool, but everyone was having a great time there anyway. Just tell your DD ahead of time that there's not a slide and she'll be prepared. (She could do what our kids did, though - swim, then go slide down the slide at the playground right by the Meadows pool, then go shower off at the shower by the pool, swim again, and start all over - they thought that was the best of all worlds!)

If you rent a golf cart, can you park it by the marina when you take the boat to MK and leave it there for the day? Yes. I think there are even plugs so you can charge it while you're gone.

How much is the horseback riding? And do I have to go with DD? She will be 9.5 yo when we go, so she meets the age requirement, just didn't know if I had to accompany her. Sorry - I don't know anything about that.

You will have a GREAT time at the cabins. We really loved it. If you want, you can read my TR (link below) - I discuss our love of the cabins a pretty good bit. Have fun!

You will enjoy the fort!!! I have stayed at the cabins 3 times. The are not damp and musty. What they are is a trailer made Disney style. There is no room service but maid service everyday. Plus they do your dishes!!!!!!!

No slide yet. They are planning to revamp the pool. Search this board and see if you can find out when.

Yes, Yes and Yes on parking the golf cart near the marina. There is cart parking every at the Fort. We never drive our car except to get groceries (publix). The Trading Post is expensive.

I am not sure about the horse back riding. If no one responds by tomorrow, I will find my stuff from last year and post the info.

We have stayed at FW three times and still haven't done everything there. You will enjoy your stay there.

Thanx for the replies. We are really looking forward to it, hoping the rumors are true and that packages open tomorrow for booking!!

lklasing-I have started your TR, great read.

Skyw-I'm sure someone will know the answer, so don't worry about it.

I'm sure I will have more questions, but that's it for now!

Thanks for the info from allears. I had looked at it briefly before, just didn't read it all!!

Another question-are the bathrooms like at all the other resorts where the sink is seperate from the tub and toilet or is it a regular bathroom where everything is in one place?

If I'm reading correctly, there are two different "trading posts" where you can buy items right? We are shipping ourselves a box or two of supplies (mostly sunscreen and toiletries, since we are doing only carry on luggage for the plane) but may buy a few grocery items for breakfast like a loaf of bread or some eggs. Just wondering where I need to go to get things. We are not renting a car, just using ME, so I am not going to try to trek to a Publix or Super WM to get a few things.

I am thinking about the golf cart, but it is a lot of money for the week. I don't mind the walking, as I may even try to get a few runs in while I am there. But DH and DD may whine a bit about the walk.

Is there a bus to MK as well or can you only take the boat? When we stayed at WL you could do either.

We definately want to do HDDR, what are your opinions about Mickeys Backyard BBQ?

Has the Trails End buffet changed? I thought I read that the lunch was different. I don't know how often we would eat there, but I want to know what they have at least.

Thanks for answering all my silly questions, I am trying to learn as much as possible about FW as I can. Hoping tomorrow I can upgrade to my package!!!

The bathroom is like at home all in one room. Here is a list of stuff at posts, prices are outdated tho. http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/faq_fw.htm You can take a bus to WL and then transfer to MK bus, you can take boat to CR and walk to MK, alot easier to take direct boat. HDDR more geared toward everyone, MBBQ more geared toward kids, about the same as far as food. TE has gone to soup, salad and sandwiches for lunch, dinner remains the hot buffet.

I'm enjoying answers to these questions as we are headed to the cabins for the first time Aug 9-20. I read somewhere that there is a vanity in the bedroom. Does that mean there is a table-type shelf with a mirror?

I called this morning and upgraded my RO ressie to a package (8 nts w/9 day PH and DDP):cool1: . The CM told me that the cabins have washer and dryer:confused3 I told her I didn't think so, but she could not give a definitive answer. Is this something they were adding in the refurb?

I couldn't get a break down of nightly rate or the DDP/day. I am hoping I can check those out on the website later on.
