Questions about FP+

I am new to the FP+ as well as the magic bands. Last time we went to Disney was in 2010.
So, if we are staying "off site" do we still get Magic bands? Can we schedule FP ahead of time? If not, how will FP work for us?
also, if we stay offsite, then we can't go to EMH at parks, correct? We have to go at the normal opening time?
