Questions about flying???

Let me preface this by saying I haven't flown since high school in the 90's! I have a few questions...hopefully you all can help me out so that I don't make my family look like fools at the airport :)
We got our travel documents and ME packet (yay!). We booked everything through disney.com. From what I understand...we just show our itinerary and ID at Airtran counter to get our boarding passes??? I feel a little funny about going to the airport without any kind of ticket.
This leads me to my next question...I got our airline confirmation # and went online to choose our seats. The website only had our first and last names listed (I spoke with Disney a month before and gave our TSA information). I called Disney to make sure they had our correct names and they said we were fine. So can/should I go online 24 hrs b/4 our flight and print boarding passes or am I correct to just show up with our itinerary? Also, if I print boarding passes from home, will they show our correct names, or does it matter since we were told that our TSA form had been submitted???
Sorry for rambling on, and thanks for any help you can offer!

Bring your itinerary confirmation e-mail from the airline and your photo I.D. You can opt to use an agent or self-kiosk. Since you haven't flown in a while, I would suggest using the agent. They are in the same area. You don't print your boarding passes, only an itinerary - the airline does the rest.

You can go online 24 before to choose your seats with Airtran.

If the line is long, you may opt to use a skycap. They will need to be tipped.

On the return flight, do you plan on using RAC (Resort Airline Check-in) at your resort? Airtran is a participating airline. Read the sticky at the top of the page for particulars. This is a great service. One tip: do NOT check-in 24 hours prior to leaving. You may choose your seats, but you do not want to check-in if you plan to use RAC, because the system will show you as already checked-in and you will have to take your bags to the airport. With RAC, they do it for you and they will give you your boarding passes. If you opt to take your bags back to the airport, Airtran will print your boarding passes for you at MCO.

Enjoy!

Since you'll most likely be checking baggage, you may just as well go to the counter and get your boarding passes there. The last time I flew AirTran, I didn't have checked bags, only carryon, so I printed out my boarding pass at home. Doing it this way will save you from stressing out too much. You can then address any issues you may have right at that counter, with someone who can make any corrections.

Oh and on the Airtran website, they ONLY ask for first and last name to retrieve your itinerary - my middle name is still listed on my reservation because my full name is on my I.D.

I would get my boarding pass at home after the 24 hour mark.
the reason why--one cruise i didnt do online check in and showed up at the gate at the prerequesited time of two hours before and they gave our seats away.

We had front of the plane booked then had to sit in the back all spread out.

If you have kids-- do the check in at home

Thanks OP for asking the same question that I have been worried about!! We usually drive on trips and haven't flown for a while. It makes me a little nervous to not have tickets in hand going to the airport. Other than the itinerary and ID, is there anything else that I need to remember to do or bring along sometime before we leave? I have already paid for seat assignments for the family when I ordered the tickets.

yes, remember you can not carry anything liguid though the security so dont stop somewhere and pick up a soda to drink at the gate-- they will make you throw it away
