Hi :wave2: newbie here on the DIS and have been reading about the whole DVC point renting, etc. and have some questions.

I am planning a trip for my first time at MNSSHP and was wondering if it would even be possible to get DVC points during that time or if that's a popular time that owners use their points for?

Also do the requests for points on the DVC Rent/Trade forum actually get answered? I see a lot of requests being made for them, but they hardly get replied to.

When a DVC member offers points in the forum is it based on a first come first serve basis?

When a "home resort" is specified does that mean I'm limited to that resort or can they rent from any of the DVC resorts that have availability (is that the 7 month window ressies that can be made)?

Thank you for any information. :)

That is not a bad time at all, as schools are generally in session. Halloween itself might be the hardest, but it shouldn't be hard to get points and a reservation for that time period. You better start right away though, as we are closing on on 7 months.

I think some of these get PM'ed, but I think in general you'll do much better responding to those who have the points you need and are offering them for rent.

Depends on the renter - it is at their discretion. They might wait for someone to take all of their points rather than a fraction, for instance.

The only thing the home resort gives you is the ability to book at the 11 month window. In your case, you'll probably be booking at the 7 month window, so any home resort will work. If you are concerned about availability, find a renter with the resort you want and book before 7 months (if even a day before). That will automatically mean better availability.

Sorry, MrShiny, but Oct is becoming harder and harder to book as the time gets closer. Especially BCV and BWV since they are close to Epcot and the F&W Festival. And VWL (besides it being so small) is close to MK for MNSSHP.

You have a better chance of being responded to if you want more points or are willing to pay more than anyone else. If you put something like, willing to pay up to $10 a point, you probably won't get many responses. If you put, need 25 points for 5 nights in a studio, you probably won't get many responses. Leave payment terms up to the owner. Keep your requests few and basic. Less work for the owner.

And skip the "my little princess is looking forward to her first WDW vacation". Lots of owners look at those very sarcastically. :rotfl2:

So many non-owners look at renting a DVC reservation as a way to get a deluxe resort for the price of a value. Or less. That's what bugs me.

Oh, I agree, but it's still much easier than Christmas or spring break. The earlier in October the better. If you book now at a home resort, opr exactly 7 months out at any other one, I bet you'd have little trouble.

Thank you all for all the info. It has been very helpful. :)

A few more questions (this might be in the wrong area though). I know that the DVC owner can arrange for the DDP and then the renter pays at time of check in for it, that's my understanding.

How do the Park tickets work though? Can you still do MYW tickets with special promos or do you have to pay for tix seprately?

Also, I've seen people renting their reservations. Now if I don't need all the days of the reservation can I leave or arrive a day early or later. For example if the reservation is for 2/10-2/16 and I only need ressies for 2/11-2/16 would I be able to arrive on the 11th even though the ressie is for the 10th? Can a person whose renting their reservation change their reservation dates to meet my needs or is that already set in stone? (Of course I'm sure it would be based on availability...maybe).

Thanks!

If you don't show up for the reservation on the first day, it is cancelled. You'd have to work with the member to get it adjusted. Some will, some won't. If it means they have points left over, they might not change it.

You can buy your park tickets from anyone - Disney via the internet, Disney at the resort when you check in or at the gate or through an authorized reseller. No special deals like discounts or add-ons or such through Disney, those only come with packages. And if you are using DVC points, you are purchasing a package.
