Questions about Delta

I am starting to get worried about my Delta flight. I have not read alot of positive reviews. We always fly Airtran and we always upgrade to the first class seats. Does Delta offer the first class seat at a deeply discounted rate at check in like Airtran does? What are the chances we have a flight time change? Is it hard to get on another flight if the flight change time does not work well for us?

Delta only offers first class upgrades at deep discounts (or even at no charge) to very frequent flyers and occasionally to those who buy "full fare" aka "Y class" tickets.

Some fare classes, e.g. Delta's U and T (lowest fares), don't permit free upgrade to first class.

You can also use that airline's miles (points) to upgrade with. (Of course this requires some frequent flying.)

The recommended practice in case of flight schedule change is to hand pick alternate flights of your choice and telephone in to make that request if you don't like the flights that were rechosen for you. But do not agree to pay more but instead try to speak to other ticket agents if needed.

We booked a trip in October for April 2011. One flight changed times by 2 hours (leaving 2 hours later) BUT it was to our advantage as it cut our layover from 3 hours to 1 hour in SLC. I had to check a box saying I agreed to changes. They were fine. I do honestly check weekly to see if plane has changed (which one has only once)---this way I can change seats around. This way I also can catch other changes.

Every airline changes times and planes. You will read good and bad about every airline. Just be proactive...check weekly (might be a pain but I did when we flew Airtran in September 2008).

We always fly Delta to MCO from Canada as they offer the best flight schedule (and price) for us. We haven't had any major problems with them.

Unfortunately not for most economy fares. Delta's Medallion members qualify for unlimited complimentary upgrades so unless you have status with Delta, you won't automatically receive one.

IF there is space available, you may be able to pay a fee to upgrade to first class the day of your flight. The fee is based on the length of the flight, and longer flights will have higher fees. This is uncommon though as most of the Medallion members will have been automatically upgraded to the available seats.

If you have Sky Miles with Delta, you may use them to upgrade a coach ticket to first class. The number of miles needed varies, based on the length of the flight and the ticket purchased.

What are the chances we have a flight time change?
Unfortunately they do tend to change flight times and planes quite often so you need to keep checking as they often don't send notice that these have changed.

Is it hard to get on another flight if the flight change time does not work well for us?
It has been our experience that as long as there are available seats in your cabin, they will make the change.
