Questions about codes and rooms

I am planning a trip to WDW for December 2003. I know I'm rather early in thinking of "details" already, but it never hurts to plan ahead!

I've noticed the last couple of days there's been a flurry of posts about recently released discount codes that are good through December 25. Can anyone please tell me if these discounts are typically offered for mid-December? Would I be safe in assuming that this time next year, I may be able to nab a deal?

I noticed also that someone posted they were anxiously waiting by their phone at 7 am so that as soon as the codes were released, they could call CRO right away. How does one know when codes are going to be offered?

I'm also confused about room descriptions and pricing. I've surfed many sites, and find all kinds of descriptions, but the price lists never seem to quite match up with those descriptions. My concern is mostly bedding - we'll be travelling with 2 teenage boys who simply REFUSE to sleep in the same bed, so for sure, we need 2 beds plus a pull out sofa, or at least a roll away. Am I correct in my understanding that both WL and AKL have rooms with a queen bed, and a set of bunks? And can a person secure a guarantee of bunks? If we were lucky enough to secure rooms with a code, we would stay at a moderate and book 2 rooms, but seeing as how we've stayed at CBR and CSR previously, I was hoping to stay at a deluxe next time around.

I appreciate any information/advice any one can offer!

You can probably get the WL or AKL with the bunkbed rooms they just always say they can't garentee them. I would make sure when you make the reservation you tell the CM that you have 2 teen boys who won't sleep together. I have two teens also a boy and a girl. We stay at the ofder deluxes becuse we need to have the day bed. The daybed is the same size as a twin bed and I slept in it till I was married so I think it is fine. My son doesn't like it but he is use to it and his sister is a little bit of a princess and she really doesn't care if he sleeps in the bed with her or so she says so by her doing this she always wins the queen bed to her self. She really is never bratty this is just her one thing I think she does to get him back for being a little brother. He does and has always been the attention getter.
Sorry off topic: I always make sure I let CRO know that I need a daybed because of the children. We only got stuck in a small room once at the BC and they moved us the next day. I think they do try to make sure the bedding is acceptable to you.

Hi there,

Codes are generally offered if the reservation rate is "below normal." I know that there were codes during this season for 2001 and now again for 2002. Previous to 2001, there were not codes available for December at least. (We went Dec 1999 and had to pay rack rates as there were no code discounts :( )

Will there be codes for December 2003 - it's hard to say - it really depends on what happens with the economy and how many people plan to travel at that time and book in advance etc.

As to how we heard about the codes - some intrepid DIS posters found out that the codes might be announced on 7/22 and started a board rumour that got everyone excited - and it was true!

Good luck waiting 'til 2003 to see if there are codes - or just jump into it and book for this December :D

In regards to beds - yes you can request a room at AKL or WL with a queen bed and bunks - I'm not sure if the bunks are extra long or traditional twin bed length so if your teenagers are really tall that could be an issue (maybe someone else knows the answer to this)

Happy planning!

Oh the codes: they usually Have some type of discount going on but you need to pay attention to these boards. December isn't always discounted but I have never paid full price for a room at DW in the last 10 -12 years. keep asking questions here and someone will have the answer. Good Luck.
