Hello everyone,

I had some questions for people who have been to Clearwater. My BF and I went 2 years ago just for the day and we didn't really know where we were going to we sorta just followed the signs and parked at the first parking lot we saw and went to the beach. There was a lot of construction going on and I wasn't too impressed with the beach. Everyone says Clearwater's great, so was I missing something? Were we not on a good part of Clearwater Beach?

Does anyone have any suggestions what part of Clearwater to go this year? Also, we have a very nice camera and am afraid of leaving on beach while swimming? What do most people do with thier cameras? Anyone know if there are lockers at any Clearwater beaches?

TIA!

The area of the beach near the Clearwater Beach Hilton is quite nice. We stayed at that hotel and loved the beach there

Could it be that your were in Clearwater rather than Clearwater Beach? They are 2 different communities. In order to get to Clearwater Beach you have to drive all the way through Clearwater and over a long causeway. The road ends with a round about which wll bring you either to the quiet part of Clearwater Beach where people live (to the right) or to the busier part where the hotels and restaurants are as well as a huge parking lot for the beach (to the left).

I don't know if they have lockers there but why not bring a disposable camera for your beachtime and that way you don't have to worry about it get sand in it or wet or stolen. Leave your good camera at the hotel for the day.

I leave my camera backpack with our beach bag and chairs all the time. I know it CAN be taken, but we keep an eye on it.

Thanks for all the answers! I'm guessing we were in Clearwater and not Clearwater Beach. I'll make sure we drive all the way down this time. Great idea with the disposable. Even though I love my camera, I would hate for it to get stolen on the beach!

The construction...was it on a Bridge? If so and you parked near that then you were on the intercoastal. To get to the beach you follow the signs thru down town past the bridge contruction and you will end at the Beach...the best thing to do is to look at a website for the Beach Hotels, either Holiday Inn or The Hilton and use their directions. There is a large parking lot by the pier which is nice. If you aren't happy with the beach keep going south turn right an go over the toll bridge torward Sand Key or Indian Rocks Beach and there will be a nice Park on your right hand side...I believe it is called Sand Key Park but if not it is the only Park there. Enjoy!

how far away is clearwater beach from Disney?

It took us about 1.5 hours a couple weekends ago. Maybe longer. Traffic and construction in Lakeland and Cleawater is ridiculous.

Also, be sure to check the Red Tide foecast. It would be a pity to drive all that way from WDW to the Gulf only to caugh, sneeze, and be miserable.
