Questions about buying Disney's restrictions when buying resale

It looks like tomorrow I will be putting an offer on a contract for VWL. I know that as of 3/20 (I think) Disney has changed some things when buying resale. Can we still go to the other hotels (not at Disney)?? Can we visit Disneyland using our points? I saw that we can't take advantage of Adventures by Disney, the Disney Collection, and the Concierge Collection. Exactly what does that mean?? This is probably a really stupid question but I'm completely puzzled for some reason. There's just so much information that its somewhat overwhelming!!! Thanks!!!!
:confused3

If you purchase resale, those points can not be used for the following:
Adventures by Disney: Disney guided tours
Disney Collection: Disney Cruises and Disney Hotels worldwide
Concierge Collection: A small selection of hotels that take a lot of points

You would be able to reserve at any of the DVC resorts, RCI exchanges, club intrawest exchanges and club cordial exchanges.

As for using points at DL. If you purchase resale, you would be limited to the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Resort. A direct purchase would give you access to the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier Hotel.

No, it is a very intelligent question.

And doubly so because you asked it BEFORE purchasing, rather than, "OK, I'm in! What did I just buy???????" :confused3

Thank to both of you:) The restrictions really aren't a deal breaker!! I'm going to do more research tonight. If I were to buy VWL direct from Disney it would be $38.00 more per point, which is quite a huge difference (buying 230 points). I think that resale is definitely the way I'm going....

Pick any option you forego buying resale -- if you rent points to cover that option and pay cash, you'll come out ahead. All of the things you are giving up (and the non-DVC options you are keeping) are poor value for your points.

Plus...all that stuff is non-guaranteed. It can be taken away at any time with one swipe of the Mouse's pen -- for resale purchasers, OR FOR DIRECT PURCHASERS.

Jim is very smart. Listen to him.

If you really, really want to take a cruise or book a non-DVC Disney resort, you could always transfer your points to another member or sell a reservation you made with them to another person and use the cash for that non-DVC Disney resort.

Exactly. DVC has done resale buyers a favor by not letting them "waste" points in this way.
