A little back ground. We will be traveling to WDW for our first trip in December. Since we have an 18 hour drive we decieded to stop in Atlanta and see the aquarium, to break up the trip. My Aunt said to avoid stopping Atlanta at all costs. Of course that was after we booked a nonrefundable night.

So now I need to know what is the lastest time you can leave Atlanta on a friday afternoon without waiting in hours of traffic.

Our plan:
Leave Northern IN 4am - Thursday
Arrive in Atlanta by 4pm - Thursday (eat at Big pie in the sky)
Go to Aquarium and drive 5 hours toward Disney - Friday (eat a Winan's Chicken)
Arrive in Disney Noon - Saturday

Any advice would be helpful.

(DS has cerbal plasy thus the reason we need to break up the trip. And couldn't chance flying with all his liquid medcines and formula.) ;)

Obviously Friday afternoon rush hour traffic can be pretty bad.

I have not exactly tried this, but I would think that if you left downtown by 2pm that things should be tolerable.

If you hit the aquarium when it opens, you should be able to get all of it done by early afternoon.

Tune to WSB AM 750 for traffic updates.

We live here, so we usually leave at 6:30 am and get to WDW about 7.5 hours later.

We are leaving on Dec 18th about 1pm due to our DD's half day of school and exams.
