questions about AK dinners

How does dinner at Tusker House or Yak&Yeti work when AK closes at 6 - or 5:scared1: - pm? We'd like to try them but I can't figure out the logistics and don't want to go on the only day that the park itself is open late.

1. Do they only take ressies until like 6 pm or are they open the same hours as other WDW restaurants?

2. If you can get later ADRs, do you have to still get to the park before it closes? If so, how do you pass the time from park close until your seating, especially if it's more than an hour? Are you required to stay right in front of the restaurant since, after all, the park is closed and the animals are all presumably backstage?

3. How late do they continue to run Disney Transport busses? Do they run to all resorts (which would not seem cost effective), double up, or only go to a single location like DTD?

Thanks!

The restaurants are not open past park closing, except Rainforest, which is outside the park.
The best way to get your answer is to make an online reservation. That will show you how late you can make it. Then, if it is not when you want, just don't confirm. Do you understand?

Sure, thanks! I like to have my dates/times pretty well set before I call for ADRs; hate to tie up a CM on the phone for half an hour while I dither and change my whole schedule because I didn't understand that what I was planning is impossible......and I've never done the on-line ADRs, just by phone.

It is SO easy online. Go ahead. You have nothing to lose. Most restaurants list closing time about an hour before park closing, so people can finish dining and leave about park closing time. And they will make it clear the restaurant is closed and you should leave. (Or they have with us, at least:rotfl:) The buses run for an hour after park closing in slower times, in busy times for an hour and a half. More than once we shopped and strolled out, to be told we were getting the VERY LAST bus, and lucky to get it, otherwise we would have had to call a taxi. YMMV.

Is this true for the days that have extra magic hours (in the evening) as well? I would try checking on line, but I'm not at 180 days yet.

I looked for 6pm ressies for the week we are going in Sept and they had ressies available at 5:50. Whether they book till 6 or not I couldn't say because they just may be booked...it's getting close! I was told for counter service as long as you are in line by 5:59 you will be served! Hope this helps ya! :thumbsup2
