We're thinking of going to 50s Prime Time for lunch. How is the food at lunch? How is the entertainment? Do they still do things like tell you that you must finish all your veggies? Do they still show old sitcoms during lunch? And, can we request a table close to the TVs? We thought this would be a cute place to try, but would prefer it for lunch rather than dinner.

Also, what time does it open for lunch? Thanks!

The food is very good at lunch. You can expect the same entertainment at lunch as you would have at dinner. Keep your elbows off the table and finish your veggies if you want dessert!:) The sitcoms will be playing and you can request a table. Not sure about the opening time though.

We had lunch there in June and the food was very good. We had a great time. I love the atmosphere there. Our waitress was fun but thankfully not too crazy. I was afraid our 5 & 6 year olds would be uncomfortable but she was excellent. :) We actually were able to walk up without an ADR when it opened (which was either 11:00 or 11:30).
I am not sure what the specific differences are between the lunch and dinner menu..you can check out the menus at allearsnet.com for the specifics.
:)

We really enjoy their food. Fried chicken is great. DH and DSs say they MUST have the milkshakes. They sit you at tables with tv's that have the old sitcoms playing. It is all in good humor. DH and I are rather introverted until we get to DW but we love this restaurant. I guess I'm saying that because you can be quiet/shy and still LOVE it. My DSs love the interaction with the waiters/waitresses. They bicker back and forth with each other and they pick at the customers as if they were family. It is all good natured and good fun. DS15 had to pick up the dirty dishes last time with a teenage girl from another table because they were "misbehaving." I do believe that their "misbehavior" was intentional. I think you would have a GREAT time and the food is exceptional as well.

We had a great lunch here in August! Our server was awesome, and got me every time he came back to the table for having my elbows on the table! I kept sitting with my chin in my hands and he called me on it every time! I had pot pie and DH had meatloaf and it is one of the restaurants that we need to go back to! Such fun! I believe it opened at 11:30 when we were there, we were one of the first parties to be seated that day. Yum! :cheer2:

We were there last month for lunch and we loved it. The Fried Chicken is excellent, DH loved the pot roast and the milkshakes are wonderful.
Our waitress was a hoot. She zoned in on DS and his girlfriend, encouraging DS to propose to her then and there. It was a hoot and they enjoyed it as well.
Have a Great Trip

I was just there last month for lunch. They have the chicken pot pie at lunch, but not at dinner, so that's why I prefer lunch. Yes, they do show the old sitcoms.

My favorite memory from there was singing along to "Car 54, where are you?" with someone else who also knew what Idlewild airport was. Our server wasn't too much into the fun, but I saw a few others who were doing fun things. I'm afraid I don't know what time it first opens for lunch, but I know it was pretty rocking around 12:00.

Hi. -- What they said! We ate lunch there for my birthday in August ('cause I was born in the 50's!) It was awesome and our server was just the right amount of fun. He had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me and sign a card.

Later that day, someone yelled "Happy birthday Sharon" to me - I looked and didn't recognize them (of course) and they said "Cousin Tom and Sally" - we signed your birthday card! How great was that! Not only did they get into the spirit of the whole thing, they even signed the card AND called themselves "Cousin", just like it was supposed to be in the restaurant.

Of course, DH and I had an adult beverage with lunch, so that made it very fun AND relaxing, too!!

You mentioned the tables with the TV. There are only 12 of them, so you can request one when you check in, but it may make your wait time longer. We were willing to wait for one and we really enjoyed it. Oh yeah, you can't get a buzzer to let you know when your tables ready, because they told me "it's the fifties - we yell!" :)

The other cool thing was the canister set that was in our "kitchen" in the restaurant is the same one I have in my own kitchen!!! It was my mother's from the fifties - but they don't have the cookie jar. I was actually thinking of giving it to them so I could have a permanent little piece of us at Disney World.

I really, really recommend this restaurant. We'll be going back in February for sure. We already have our reservation. :thumbsup2

It has been several years since we were there for lunch, but it is the only story from that trip that DW continues to repeat. We sat down and had an "uncle" as our server. I went in with the attitude of having fun, so we played along with everything. But, at the very beginning of the meal, I ordered a soft drink and he hadn't gotten away from the table good before I had finished it (very hot December day). A couple of minutes later, he comes back with a pitcher of Diet Coke, and I push my glass to the edge of the table. He looked at me and said, "Oh no, Skippy. You aren't going to have me running back and forth to the kitchen all day." At which point, he then took the straw out of my glass, placed it in the pitcher, and took my glass away. The picture of me with the pitcher is one of DW's favorite from that trip.:lmao:

The food was very good! I had the meatloaf and DW had the fried chicken. But, to be honest, the whole thing was about the atmosphere and having a good time. Of course, isn't that what Disney is all about?

We're having lunch there too. Can't wait! And from what I saw, the lunch and dinner menu are basically the same. I want the pot roast and it's on the lunch menu too.

Sounds great! I am convinced now that we HAVE to go there!

DH and I are not shy people at all. We love to get into all the entertainment and everything! I think the boys will love it too!

Which sitcoms do they show? My favorite show of all time is "The Honeymooners" and I know it is from the mid-1950s. I'm only 32 but my father used to record that show late at night when it was on when my sister and I were kids, so we really got into it. And I mean really into it...we always yell "Honeymooners" quotes to each other...constantly!!! That would really make my day, if they show that one! :)

I have actually used the recipe from All Ears for the 50s Prime Time pot roast. I made it one time last winter and it was so delicious! Very easy to make as well. But I would order something different, since it would be lunch and I would want something lighter, and since I can make that pot roast anytime at home. The sandwiches they serve at lunch look great. One thing I find funny is that they have a chicken sandwich that looks right up my husband's alley, and it is called "Cousin Eric's...". My husband's name us Eric! How funny would it be if he ends up ordering that? :rotfl:

Thanks again for all the great comments! Keep 'em coming!
