Question?

The passport to Disney Wonder says that the KTTW is your ID, your stateroom key and the one that kinda bothers us is that it opens the in room safe. If a cleaning person has a key that opens into your stateroom and what keeps them from being able to open the in room safe?

But I do know that only the original card used to lock the safe will open the safe up again.

So make sure who ever locks things away will be around if you want to unlock them again or you will have a problem.

It probably has something to do with the encoding on the magnetic strip of the KTTW card.

We used an expired ATM card which was suggested on this board when I started researching last January. We hid that card in the room and that way DH or I could access the safe whenever we needed to even if the other wasn't there. The room key thing just wouldn't have worked for us all week.

SO I guess the answer is that your KTTW card CAN be your safe key but isn't unless you make it. I like the ATM card idea! Also, if you are a family of 4 and use little Johnny's KTTW card the first time you use your safe then you have to use little Johhny's card every time. I'm sure the housekeeping staff just has a key for doors only and one with a code that opens many doors (i.e., they don't have multiple door keys) and I'm sure the safe wouldn't recognize that code.

I also know that Guest Services have a master key, b/c when I thought I had lost my KTTK, I was the last one to lock the safe. Thank goodness I found it!

Yes, you have to use the same one to open it after you have locked it with that one. If you choose to close it again you can use a different card, but that different card must be the one to open it again. I hadnt heard of the expired Credit card thing, great idea!

I used our Costco card last time around and just left that hidden in and amongst our clothes. It worked out very well as both of us had access to the safe at all times.

So- youns mean that whomever's key card that opens the room safe the first time..has to be the same card that opens it every time during that stay? Is that right?
and it can be the room key card or an atm card as well??

No you don't have to use the same card everytime you open or close the safe. Just each time you do it.
If you use yours to lock it then you have to use yours to open it.
The next time you can use a different card to lock it but it must be the same card you used to lock it to open it.

This might sound strange but do they charge to use the safe? On my last vacation, the hotel charged like a dollar or two every time we opened the safe. We had no idea until after we got the bill!

NO charge to use the safe, we used it many times, wished we had known about the ATM thing. Our teens lost their card a couple of times(we found them all in the room later) and when they get a new card, it doesn't work the safe. So we had maintenance come down twice to unlock it for us, only maintenance can do this from what we were told/saw. Our room steward could not. This first time was because it was still locked from before or something, only once was our fault. When you have alot of people of different ages, a generic card would be best. We had lots of times when someone needed something out of the safe but the right person wasn't around.
