I am fairly new to the digital camera world right now I have a Kodak CX7300 3.2 MP. I would like to upgrade but don't have the $ to spend a whole lot. Could you recommend a good decent priced camera? Thank you!!

What does your present camera not have or not do that you would like a replacement to have/do? What is your anticipated budget?

i have one daughter with the 4mp version of your camera and another with a canon powershot( hers is a6??) and between the 2 the canon pictures are much better particularly in low light situations
if you look at this link he has the cameras he thinks are best for the price/features and it might help you decide what you need/want/gotta have;)

Thank you I will check that website. My camera does ok, I would like more mega pixels. I am not sure what are the best features for digital cameras, meaning what should you look for, etc. Do you know what type is good to take non flash photos? I know in Disney World there are a lot of shows where you can't use flash. I have a manual camera that I love since it does a wonderful job of taking pictures in the dark without flash but it is old and to big to carry around not to mention that I like digital since you don't have to buy film and you get to see the picture. Thank you so much!!

Here are a couple of things to think about. How much in total do you want to spend? What type of memory cards do you already have? Do you want one that takes AAs or a specialized battery? How much zoom do you need?

Please note that you are not likely to get the low light performance of your old camera with any p&s digital. You would have to go DSLR for that. If your old manual camera is a SLR, your old lenses might still work on a new DSLR and therefore you could go that way without too much invested.

mcraft17,

I just noticed that you are from KY. I grew up in Ashland, lived in Lexington for four years while at UK, and then lived in Louisville for around four years before moving down to FL. Where in KY are you?

More megapixels will be no guarantee of a better photo. Chances are that your new headache will be image noise, the curse of all PnS cameras with higher (5+) megapixel counts.

There are other things on newer cameras that are improvements... but more megapixels is not one of them.

This is not (as much of) an issue with DSLRs, due to the much, much larger sensor in them.

We are in Louisville we moved here from Fl about a year ago for my husband to go to school here. We are originally from Oh but we were in Fl for 5 yrs. So it is not better to have higher MegaPixel's? I am looking at spending no more than $150 or so. I would like one with AA batteries, my memory card is a SD card. I am looking into a Canon or a Sony, maybe a Kodak again but not sure, any advice on the best one? Thank you so much this is all new to me!

You will not find many reviews placing a Kodak above a Canon or Sony. Also, Kodaks have a reputation of not working well in low light. I have had two cameras from the Canon A line that I have been happy with. I have since passed them down, but they worked well for the money. You are probably about in the A5xx or A6xx price range. I am not sure of the current model numbers. The A4xx series is somewhat limited by comparison and I would avoid them. I believe that all of the current A series cameras are SD and AAs. Watch for President's Day sales coming up next weekend. I almost always buy online from places like Buydig, B&H, & Adorama. Be sure to review a store at ResellerRatings.com before you make an online purchase. There are some very dishonest people in the online camera business.

I hope you are enjoying my old town. I miss it in ways, but I do not miss the cold. If you were not there for it last year, watch for Derby Festival events. Derby season is a very fun time to live in the Ville. Thunder Over Louisville is a great photo op.

Thank you, I was looking into the Canon A530 so I may go with that. It took me a little bit to get used to the cold again but we are really enjoying it here. We were here for Derby last year and were suprised by how big a thing it is here! We didn't get to go to any events so I would like to try to get to Thunder this year. Have a great evening it was snowing here earlier...send some heat!!

I just got a Nikon D200 with the 18-200mm VR lens and need to get some studio lights for portrait photography.

Not sure what to buy as I've never used studio lights before. Any help would be appreciated.
