Answer: because significant winter snow is coming FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY!
That's just wrong! We have two snow days left!

Answer: Because I'm all dressed for work and my principal just called to say we have a snow day - there's no snow where I live, but the roads are icy near my school. :flower1:

That's a bummer too. I've had days I was halfway to work (1/2 hour drive) before they called off. One day during an ice storm I was already in my classroom getting ready! And I came back to a home without power! That was a fun one.
At least the snow now is only supposed to be 4 to 7 inches--even on a regular day that's probably only good for one snow day. And I don't want to add any days past June 3.

Our schedule tomorrow should be interesting. The kids are supposed to get out at 11:20 tomorrow. But if the weather is bad (it is already) then they'll delay 1 hour and get out at 12:20. If its really, really bad they'll cancel. Our school is always the last to delay and the last to close. Last time it was bad all the surrounding schools closed except ours! We had a delay and all I kept hearing were buses calling into the schools that their students would be late because the roads were bad.

I'm confused, if you only have 2 snow days left, and it is only the middle of January, shouldn;t the teachers be HAPPY the storm is coming Friday night into Saturday?

If they are upset that it is unfair of snowstorm to hit on a weekend with only 2 snow days left in January, then please let me know how happy they are when they are still in school the last week of June. :)

The teachers at 56 schools here in NC are upset because many of them had to spend the night at the school with 2400+ students that couldn't get home last night after a "surprise" storm hit and dropped a whopping .5 inch of snow.

I thought the same thing. We are not supposed to get snow on Friday night.

I always pray for only 4 snow days and no more. We get 3 snow days a year, but our students last day is always on Thursday, with Friday being a teacher prep day. If we go to 4 snow days we just loose our prep day. Fine with me, I just make the kids help me pack up the room on the last day :D .

We never get snow days! The last snow day we had was in March 2003. Well we actually had 3 snow days in a row because we got about 3 feet of snow.

Here it has to snow at least 8 inches before they even call a delayed schedule. If the wind is blowing at the snow drifts we might get a snow day with 8 inches.

Signed,
A teacher who never gets to use any of the 4 snow days they build into our schedule. :sad1:

We never get snow days either, and we will never have early dismissals either.

The most we will get is two hour delay.

They very rarely close schools in our district. 4-7 inches certainly wouldn't do it unless it was white out conditions at the time the buses were supposed to be out getting the kids.

We did get a "rain" day 3-4 days into the school year because alot of the main intersections in the town were under water and buses couldn't get though.
