Question....Why do so many people hate the All Star Resorts?

We've stayed at all the value resorts. I don't hate them, but if I have the money, I prefer to stay at a moderate. If fact, just called Disney yesterday to change an upcoming weekend trip from Pop to POR. There is so much to do at POR that we can stay at the resort the entire time and not get bored!

im not getting mad at you all for not loving the All Star Resorts lol, i just like them a lot. Ive been staying at them since i was 9 and im 17. I will agree that its a persons opinion and believe me i love the deluxe resorts especially the contemporary and the animal kingdom lodge. :)

I havn't stayed at any of them yet but will be at POP the begining of may, sure I love deluxe... when we go to the carribean we dont stay in anything but a 5 star. But I look at it this way, when WE go to Florida we don't use the room except to sleep in that is it. I would much rather stay at a value save money and use the extra cash for things for the family to do and shopping as there is so many things in orlando for family's to do and it isn't cheap it is nice to save where you can, and I think personally the values are still disney properties, you still feel the magic but for less.
.... even tho I was dieing to stay at AK but not for the rooms, but for the animals as I LOVE animals (I have 7 parrots, 2 dogs, chinchilla, guinie pig, hamster, and a crab haha ) :rotfl:

i noticed that a lot of DISers tend to hate the All Star Resorts. I've stayed at them more than 10 times and had an awesome time everytime. They are an affordable resort and they have everything you need, a food court, pool, arcade, laundry, gift shop, etc. Whats so wrong with them?

I think its funny that you say they have everything you need. Maybe they have everything YOU need, but they don't have everything I need. I have very little interest in a food court. I mean I guess they're nice to have for convenience sake, but I'd much rather sit-down restaurants. And laundry? I don't do laundry when I'm on vacation. That's why its called a vacation.

I like a little bit of luxury when I'm on vacation and I don't feel like the Allstars offer much of that. Everybody has their own needs.

We've stayed at the All-Star Sports on our first trip, AKL on the second, and are going back to ASSports. There were nice things that were offered at AKL and not at the All Stars (valet parking, bell services), but for us, in the end, a room is a room. Our walk to the bus stations was about the same, the waits were similar for buses, the only thing that is a bit annoying is the fact that we have to pay for a fridge :scratchin but still will work out to be WAY less than paying for the upgrade. :)

All i can say is not everyone has as much money as you do. I know tons of people that do laundry, esp. my mom and aunt for example. If you want to wear your clothes you havent washed in a week or however your long your vacation is thats your choice. I'd rather have clean clothes. Yes you can pack 7 different shirts and 7 shorts/pants then do it but i'd rather not over pack and use up space.

I also take vacations to WDW 4 times a year and drive to WDW from New Hampshire.

We have never stayed at value. We have always gotten deals, and went moderate. OTOH, we have always been willing to stay at a value if no deals come up, that fit our needs, which is exactly what we are doing for our April trip. We wanted to go with the dining and did not want to pay rack for the moderates.

We are going with Pop, because it is newer, but are confident that we will enjoy our stay at a value as much as we have at the moderate resorts. We always visit Deluxe resorts, and OOOO, and AHHHHH, and swear that NEXT time we will stay there. But in the end, we can't ever bring ourselves to spend that much. We could if we wanted too, but would rather have the $$ for a longer trip, and $$ for other things during the year. If it is a once in a lifetime trip, I could see going all out, but other than that save some bucks and go back more often.

I agree, that even at rack, they are a pretty good deal. I've paid close to, or even more, at some fairly crappy places, in Gatlinburg, or by Cedar point here in Ohio. Heck, my Holiday Inn room by the airport in Columbus cost more than I'm paying at disney, and that was with the AAA internet rate.

I also agree that some people do think it is beneath them to stay at value. As evidenced by a few comments on this thread. I get the feeling that they think there better than the resort, and the people who stay there. Well all I have to say to that, is that Oh well, to each their own. I've seen some real losers, any place I have ever stayed. Cheap, or Top of the line. Some people just like to spend more $$ than they need to, I guess.

BTW- I do laundry too. I'd rather have clean clothes, than dirty ones lying around all week. I still overpack, and prob. would have enough to not have to do laundry, but just can't stand the mess.

I think the themes are adorable, but as a single person w/no children it just seems there would be too much noise for my liking.

See, that's the difference. I don't have that much money. I probably have less than you. But when I do go on vacation, I try to go all out. That's what I like. But I won't go into debt for it. So I go when I can afford it. I've been to Disney World twice in the last 6 years (Swan in 01 and CBR in 99). I've only taken two other real vacations in that time, so you see, I go on vacation less than once a year.

But to answer your question, I don't like the AllStars becasue it doesn't fulfill my needs.

We've stayed at ASM once and ASMo twice. We had a wonderful time each visit! Our last trip, we didn't even consider anywhere other than Movies, because our DS LOVES Toy Story. He was in heaven all week staying in the Buzz building. We found the bus system to be awesome. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus at the hotel, and most of the time it was a bus only for Movies. Funny, but the longest bus travel time we had was when we were going from DTD to the BC to eat at Beaches and Cream. The bus wasn't crowded, but from DTD Marketplace, we stopped at the other DTD stop, then Swan, then Dolphin, then YC, and finally BC. So, I really don't see why people complain when three All-Stars share a bus.

Don't get me wrong, I am drooling over several deluxe resorts for future trips. And, DH & I agreed on last trip that when the kids are bigger (they're 3 & 6 now) that a value room will be really tight. And, since we have a boy & a girl, they can't sleep together forever. We are looking at WL or AKL for our next trip and hope for bunk beds.

I think it's wonderful that Disney provides different levels of resorts. Some really like luxury and pampering at their resorts. Others had rather put the bulk of their money on dining or shopping or doing tours, or whatever. This way, there's something to please everyone.

alrighty, i understand that clearly. it does fulfill my needs so thats why i keep on staying there, no need to debate it, we just have two different opinions. Of course i love staying at deluxe resorts, they are awesome! :)

I think it all depends at what time of the year you stay at the All Stars-I too think they are very Motel 6ish, friends stayed there(Movies) over Columbus 4 day weekend two years ago and loved it. They booked at Movies again the nexy July and had a nightmare trip. Hordes of screaming kids(including rude, obnoxious teens) very poor Bus service and the resort seemed to be very short staffed. They would only stay there again during less crowded times. :wizard:

I didn't read through the thread, but wanted to toss in my .02 - I love ASMu, especially the fountain between the Jazz Inn buildings in the morning. The roses look and smell wonderful, and it's either relaxing when no one else is around, or fun to watch the sleepy people stroll (or sometimes stumble) by. :)

I have noticed the same thing, that people seem to dislike the All Star resorts. We are a family of 6, so we'd have to pay for two rooms. For the price, the Value resorts can't be beat. We tend not to spend a lot of time in the room, and we do like eating at sit-down restaurants, but there are so many on Disney property it does not bother me if my resort doesn't have one.

I think for the value, the All Stars can't be beat. Perhaps if we didn't have a big family, we might be staying in a moderate or a deluxe, but for us the All Stars suit us just fine.

I think the Alll-Star Movies looks great! Our first trip is next month and we're staying at the Poly but only after A LOT of consideration. The reasons we're staying deluxe are because we have 3 DDs, one of whom is 2 so we need to easily/speedily get back to our resort every day for naps. Also, we would need to get 2 rooms at the values since we have 5 people. Plus, this is a big special trip for us. We don't usually go places where we have to fly so we most likely won't be back to DW for at least 3 or 4 years. Trust me, I think about all the money we would save even getting 2 rooms, but the convenience is why we're at the Poly. I bet kids love the theming at the values better!

I will never stay there again because when we went there in December, we checked in, I left my purse in the room, the luggage was still in the car and when we came back to the room later that evening, they had given my room to someone else :confused3

Luckily, the people that were in our room were very honest and turned my purse into the office. The manager never even apologized for the mess -

I stayed at All Star Music when my daughter was 2 1/2, and my twin boys were almost 1. From the moment of check in, it seemed like everything went wrong. Part of the problem was that I had stayed at the Polynesian the previous trip, and the All Stars did not seem to have the same magic.

I've stayed at all three All-Stars and they're all fine.

Right now, I prefer Pop Century because it doesn't share buses and is much closer to Downtown Disney.

The first time I stayed onsite I stayed at ASMU and loved it, but hey I was at Disney!! Since then I've stayed at ASMO and we loved the theming over any of the AS. The only thing I didn't like about it was the bar outside. I've never seen so many people crowded around a bar before in my life! While the parents were concentrating on getting drunk their kids were running amuck way into the wee hours. We only stayed there one night so maybe this wasn't the norm.

We stayed at Pop this December and I wasn't fond of it. I would rather do Disney at a Value resort than not at all though.

IMHO.....even though all the values are outside corriders, they are better than any days inn or quality inns you can get outside the world...

think about it...with the stay you get free transportation and great themes...
what more can you ask for at the same price as or better than outside the world.

granted I have never stayed at a value, have done 2 moderates...
and quite honestly they were fine..
I prefer deluxe when I can afford it...
enjoy inside corriders, especially when it rains
which it usually does when I am in WDW

well...
to each his own..and go with what you can afford...
and it is better to stay inside the world than out ....

anytime of the year
